Enlighten me. Fill me in. I mentioned I'd like one in passing about five months ago. My parents got me gift cards for Christmas so I can get one if I wish.
However, now I'm on the fence. I have a mid-to-higher end coffee pot as it is. It's seven years old and seems fine. Makes good coffee. Does what I need it to do (timer, brews..lol. I'm not all that fussy about coffee).
I do think the Keurig options for other drinks are great. As is the fact I wouldn't be dumping out a 1/4 to a half a pot everyday (I usually take MIL a cup and the E. student sometimes has some). However, Kcups seems spendy to me..I can pour a lot out for that money. And I'd still need my regular pot for larger gatherings right? I don't need one more kitchen appliance.
I don't think you need one. I get the novelty and I've considered getting myself one, but then I realize that it will probably cost me a lot more in the long run. They do have a k-cup insert so you can put your own coffee in instead of buying the one time use cups, but I'd still be concerned about cost.
I've always taken you for a very practical person, so my guess would be that it ends up not being a worthwhile purchase for you, but I could be wrong.

Ha! No you're totally right. I'd basically just want it as a splurge/for fun item. My other reason for wanting it is our exchange students/helpers all take their coffee different so they'd get what they want. They just graciously drink what I hand out now.
I also don't need another bad habit. I feel like I'd be playing with that thing all day..and well..that's not healthy.
I might just wait until my current coffee pot dies and see what's out there then..and hang onto my gift cards until the dead of march when I'm all sick of winter and need some fun.

I have one and the only reason it is good is because I am the only morning coffee drinker in my house. (Dh makes an espresso after lunch in his stovetop mocha pot.) I was pouring out 1/4 to half a pot every morning before and that was expensive.
IMHO, the coffee the kuerig makes doesn't taste that great. I've used cups and the fill yourself cup. I still use it daily, but wish there was a better option.
Well, nobody obviously NEEDS one but it's probably in my top 3 of fave household items.
For me, I save money. I am the only one who drinks coffee so I was dumping pots of coffee down the drain. This way, I can use regular ground (cheap) coffee with the k-cup insert or I can use a k-cup - both options just make a cup, which is all I need. And it saves me from stopping at Starbucks.
It's rare that we have company that are here for a coffee-appropriate event but when we have, I just put out the k-cups and they can choose their own (decaf, reg, strong, mild, etc).
If you have people in your house or work that like different kinds of coffee, then that's probably the only reason to get one, honestly. My mom got one for me for xmas and it's nifty and all, but it's way more expensive and the coffee isn't as strong as when you brew a whole pot. I like my coffee to put hair on my chest. The flavored coffees are the best part, and it's cheaper than Starbucks, I guess.

I got one for christmas because I am typically the only one in house who drinks coffee on a daily basis. while I love our nicer mr coffee for when we have company and if dh and I are both going to drink it. Like you I typically dump half a pot even if I only make half a pot to start with. I also like that I can brew a cup of coffee in under a minute with mine. I bought a reusable filter container for it so I can use foldger or whatever normal coffee I want. Mine came with a small sampler so I'm excited to try them. I also drink a lot of hot cocoa in the winter and this is much easier than boiling water. Mine was purchased at BBB with a 20% coupon. I originally wanted a small one cup one but dh said if he was going to buy me one he was getting a nicer one for the $20 difference. eta: as I have discovered I'm not a coffee snob I will drink about anything. My cousin who is also said that keurig coffee doesn't taste good.
We have had one for over two years - we got it as a shower gift when we got married. I love it - I love flavored coffees and only drink 1 - 2 cups a day. When my husband drinks it, he wants something totally different (unflavored, dark). It works great for our household and keeps me away from the Sbux/Dunkin drivethrough!
We are probably getting rid of ours, or at least not replacing it if it dies. We got it originally because we both drank really different coffee. Now we drink the same and it doesn't make sense. Plus, the coffee from a drip brewer is just better. Don't do it Dairy. You will probably regret it.
Oh, and yes, it is more $$ than the regular pot if you drink the same coffee. Buy yourself something else fun
I think you shouldn't get one. From what I understand, you have a lot of people in and out of your house - that would be so freaking expensive if that is how everyone made their coffee. And if you had to make a pot all the time for everyone, what is the point of even having a keurig?
I have one. It was given to me by my parents- it was theirs for a few years and they passed it on to me. I keep it down in my daycare; I have two kitchens in this house So it's PERFECT for me - I can make a cup of coffee in a hurry, and just one cup. Or if I have someone visiting the daycare I can offer them a hot drink. But to have in my house upstairs, meh.

I don't really like mine. I don't think the coffee tastes as good and I've used a lot of different k-cups. I was a Folders and cheap coffee maker drinker before, so it's not like I am that picky.
I have it because I live alone and most of the time, one cup of coffee is all I need.
I could imagine it being great for living w/ someone who likes coffee totally different than you--for ex, one person likes it really strong whereas one doesn't, one like flavored coffee whereas the other doesn't.
We got one because I started liking weaker coffee than DH and it's way faster to make one quick cup at 5 am to bring to work than to brew a whole pot. Also, I LOVE hazelnut coffee but H absolutely hates it. It's actually been a perk now that I'm pregnant because I can make my decaf cups and H can make his regular.
We have the refillable cup and we buy K cups at BB&B with the 20% off coupon. It's cheaper than Starbucks.
I do think that they need to make it so it brews hotter coffee!

You DON'T need one! We have had one for a little over a year and it does not work. IT makes half a mug then the rest of the liquid goes in the overfill part on the bottom or that leaks all over the counter. My MIL has the same problem. I think they suck!

Call Keurig! They have fantastic customer service. They will likely send you a new machine.
we have 2 - on in the house one in the camper and I love them! it's great for ppl who drink coffee throughout the day and want fresh coffee. My h works evenings and I work days so we are on totally different schedules. Plus I often need a 3pm cup to keep going! You can shop around for deals and use coupons at Kohl's, JCP, etc.

i have a friend with one of these and this happened to her. there is a fix they will tell you about that will work for a while and then they end up sending you a new/replacement one, as long as you are still w/in warranty. doesn't sound unreasonable to me.
this friend has it and i love it for all of the parties she has. she is a coffee fiend and has a great selection whenever all of our friends gather there. she also has a great selection of creamers (i love flavored creamers combined with flavored coffees). but, it would be too expensive for us.
i don't quite understand why everyone keeps making pots and dumping part of it out. dh and i make just what we want and if anything gets dumped, it is less than half of a cup (measuring cup, not a big mug cup, that is). we have a traditional coffee maker.
Thanks girls! I will think on this for awhile. You all have good reasoning. I guess I don't dump that much but sometimes I start a second pot thinking someone wants it and only like a cup is gone. I also have my ratio for a full pot perfected and I am lazy and do nit want to experiment apparently.
My MIL just gave us one for Christmas, and I'm trying to pawn it off on my husband's office because they were thinking about getting one (he works with only about 5 people usually). I got rid of our regular coffee maker a while ago because we have really hard water in the house we rent and it just gunked it up constantly. I use a ceramic filter to make our coffee now. It takes a few minutes, but the coffee is excellent and I don't lose what small amount of counter space I do have to a big machine.
I think the Keurig would be much more useful at an office where everyone can supply their own cups or use the reusable one with whatever they want to drink. I can't imagine wanting to use it that much at home.
I got mine as a Christmas present last year. If I hadn't, I probably wouldn't have one. But now that I have it, I absolutely love it.
Here's why: 1. DH and I drink two different kinds of coffee. The Keurig makes it so much easier for us to drink our two different coffees than a traditional coffee maker. We wasted a lot of coffee brewing two separate batches of two different coffees. 2. DH is a klutz. With our traditional coffee maker, he got shit everywhere. I mean, it's been over a year without it, and I still find coffee bean crumbs in drawers and crevices. 3. When I have company, I can make a ton of different drinks with very little effort. It brews very quickly and with no mess at all.
If you don't see the appeal, then don't get one. They are more of a convenience in my life than anything else. I usually get my K-cup refills at Bed, Bath, and Beyond because I can get them with a 20% off coupon. Otherwise, Walmart and Meijer have reasonable prices on them in my area, too. I find that the cost is similar to what I was paying for traditional coffee, and I'm not dumping a lot of it down the drain. Also, it's a lot cheaper than going to Starbucks, which is what I did a lot before my Keurig; I hardly go now.

DH got one last Xmas. It made a lot of sense for us because he is the only coffee drinker, and he drinks one cup a day at most.
Now he can't have coffee at all, so it just gets pulled out when we have company. It works fine for that, but a cheaper pot would have too.
My mom has a nespresso single serve machine, and I think it makes much better coffee. No idea how much it costs. And I guess it is espresso not coffee, but I don't know if that tastes any different than strong coffee.
So glad this question was asked! I kind of want a Keurig (probably just because it's a hot item) but the coffee does seem pricey. DH says I shouldn't get one as he prefers our French Press.
It is super convenient, but the coffee it makes is "meh". I've tried dozens of different kinds, and it's just not the same as percolator or french press. Fine for someone who drinks maybe 1-2 cups a day and making a whole pot isn't worth it, but if your family goes through an entire pot every morning, I'd save your money. K-cups add up. I have one at work because the coffee sucks and I found myself going to the coffee shop every morning burning $10 every week, when I can spend $8 on a box of k-cups and have coffee for 2 weeks.
Have you looked into the Scoop coffee maker? You use your own ground coffee, so no buying k-cups. I kind of wish I'd looked into that before I bought the Keurig!
we got ours as a gift, but it's probably one of the top things I use in the kitchen. I typically make iced coffee with it. I also like how you can do apple cider, tea, hot chocolate, iced tea... and you can buy your own grounds (or grind your own) and make a cup. the thing I like most is that you can make one cup at a time.
we got a Tassimo for our wedding and the Keurig blows it away.
I got one for Christmas and i do love the convenience and all the bold roasts out there. However to me it is not a replacement for a standard coffee maker, its a "nice to have" item. I will always have my regular coffee maker for large gatherings.
