1) I use an old Singer sewing machine, it was my grandmother's. When I sew certain fabrics, the fabric bunches up and doesn't look attractive. I have fooled around with tension and with stitch width, neither one fix the problem. Is this a sewing machine problem or is this more so the fabric?
2) When sewing I back stitch so that I don't come undone, but when I have to sew on the right sides (say for a quilted look) do I back stitch there too? How do I not make it look so, trashy? Junky? Like I back stitched it to secure it?
2) Take your time, go slow, and only do one or two backstitches. You could also leave the threads long at the beginning and tie them underneath yourself afterwards, and clip close-ish to the knot.

I didn't even think of that!
I was never much of a sewer, not like my Mother or my Grandmother but I've been getting into it more and more. I think I have a pack of needles somewhere for it that I bought recently.
