I really want to spurge on cardigans because I hate replacing mine all the time. I have tried AT, Old Navy, Loft, and Target so far and I am not happy with it so I am ready to splurge for something better. The Target ones have held up the best but these fade so I have to dye the cardigans after I wear it a few times. Loft cardis last longer than target cardis initially but do not take dye well so in the long run my Target cardis last longer. Old Navy fell apart and AT shrinks. My next cardigan purchases will be a small splurge at Lands End, BR, or Macys. (I have to wear petite tops so I have very few options.) If I could find a good cardi that will last I will happily shell out more money for it.
Definately try the Lands End ones. I collect these when they go on sale. They wash and wear beautifully- even the brights hold true for several seasons. I have a bright gold one from 4 years ago that's still as bright as the day I bought it. If you do Sears Shopper Rewards, you'll earn credit toward future purchases. LOL, I bought myself a fleece jacket and 2 scarves with points from the past year alone.
Splurge worthy: Bras & underwear Winter coat Trench coat (like the previous poster my Burberry trench is still going strong!) Tights (I like the all the way spanx- they wash well & last forever) Jeans DVF Wrap dresses Work out gear Boots/work dress shoes
Otherwise I buy the rest of my normal basics at jcrew, banana outlet, & target!
I usually spend a bit of money on dress pants. I too love the Express Editor pants; they fit me the best. I think it's worth it because they last a long time, and don't seem to pill or tear easily.
I also think that shoes are worth spending money on. If you don't have on comfortable shoes, your whole body feels the effects. As a teacher who is on her feet most of the day, good shoes make all the difference.

Thanks! What is the sales price that you look for to stock up on cardigans?
I was at the local Sears yesterday and they had the traditional cotton twin set cardies in pima cotton for 60% off $49 in misses sizes. They has some other merino and blends for a bit more.
Here's a link to the current stock on line. I find prices are almost always lower at Sears.
