Brought to you buy the fact I just shelled out a awful lot on 3 pairs of Express Editor pants.
they are my very favorite. I wore the snot out of my current 3 pairs. I've had them forever and they are the only dress pants I wear to school so I wear them 3xs a week plus.
They fit great, come out of the wash great no matter what I do to them, never lose their stretch, drape right and on on.
THose three pairs of pants are worth more than the rest of my entire wardrobe..lol..but they sure do look great.
My other big clothing splurge? Carhartt's for the barn.
I also like good quality purses, because I rotate between the same two until they're shredded.
LOOOVE Express Editor pants. LOVE THOSE! I'm pretty sure I am wearing an 8-year-old pair. Like I seriously got them for an honor society interview in college.
Yup. I just checked and they are definetly editors.
Jeans. Definetly jeans. I will splurge on good jeans. I can scrimp on tops and shoes at discount places, but jeans are hard to come by.
Running shoes? I shell out $100 on a new pair every year. Jeans, too. I haven't spent money on jeans post-baby though. I still want to lose another 5-10lbs. Then I might think about buying a pair of nice jeans. Man, this post made me realize my wardrobe sucks. I don't have hardly any nice/nice fitting clothes.
Boots. I will shell out big money for boots. Good ones last me foooooorever and I get tons of use out of them so it's worth it to me. This applies to utilitarian boots and fashion boots.
I'll also spurge on bras. Not fancy pretty ones - just actually comfortable ones that really fit. I can't wait till my boobs stop changing sizes so I can be comfy again.
Otherwise I'm pretty cheap.
I will pay a lot more for pants than for shirts because it's harder to find something that fits my bottom half. But even then I have a hard time spending more than Target prices.
FYI - Dairy - my mom bought my sister and her H and their kids a whole freakin' wardrobe of Carhartt's stuff for christmas (they own a horse farm) and said that Sierra Trading Post had kick-ass deals. She left the original pricetags on the gifts just so she could brag about how she did not pay that amount.

I spend a ridiculous amount of money every year on workout gear. Running shoes, gym shoes, cycle shoes, running tights, swimsuits, etc.
That said, when if comes to regular splurge items ... I will drop $$ on long-term shoes - boots, classic pumps, oxfords, etc. Not so much on "in-style" shoes since they likely won't be in style for too long.
Also jeans, although I've been lucky enough lately to not need to buy the $$ kind because I keep finding good ones at goodwill. LOL
I love Editor pants! I try to wait until they go on sale because my size always seems to be available then. I've gotten them for $20 or $30 before.
I really only spend $$ on work clothes, but I work in a profession where image is kind of important. I like Banana Republic pants and J. Crew tops. It all holds up really well and I'd rather buy something high quality that will last a long time.
- Outdoor gear (for backcountry hiking, XC skiing, snowshoeing). I splurge on down, Gore Tex, etc. Better safe than sorry because you got cold and wet. - Work pants. Fit is so key that I will shell out when I find it. Right now I like Banana Republic Martin fit. - Shoes, although I still don't pay full price. I really like Cole Haan wedges.
Those are my big ones. Makeup, too, if that counts?
As I get older, I find that I'll splurge on almost anything except Tshirts. Ive had Jcrew t's and i don't see any difference between them and old navy. One good example is my boots- I bought a Steve Madden pair a year ago, and with regular wear, they look crappy. Now my Cole haan boots I've owned for 6-7 years? They look amazing, better than when I bought them and I've worn them so much. I also splurge on jeans. I'll pay 180 dollars for jeans but I don't like shelling out 30 bucks or more for a tshirt, lol.
I love the Editor pants too! All of my work pants are from Express. My splurge items are all of my workout wear from LLL. I love them and pay for them willingly. They also help motivate me to get out on the trail.
Pieces that I plan to have for a long time. So things like -Coats -a good white blouse -shoes/boots -a blazer -purse -some pants/jeans. I mostly buy cheap crappy jeans, but I like to have at least one "nice" pair and a good pair of dress pants
Anything trendy, I buy cheap. Classic wardrobe staples I am willing to spend more on.
But I'm not meaning that I buy $300 pumps, I just don't buy Payless or Target anymore. For something that has to support my entire weight - for hours at a time - it's totally worth paying a wee bit more for a better brand.

I'll splurge on jeans, winter coats, and purses.
I hate hate hate jean shopping so if I can find a pair that are comfortable, don't stretch out and look good on me, they are worth their weight in gold. We live in a cold climate, so having a stylish yet super warm winter coat is worth it too.
And I hang onto my purses forever. I just got a new one for Christmas but had been using my previous one for almost three years So when I get one, I want it to be of high quality.
Bras. That is about it. I am an odd size so I have to get the more expensive bras. I really don't want to be so cheap but it is a very hard habit to break.
Bras, jeans, coats, workout gear. I tend to spend less on tops because I always want something new so I buy new each season for the most part. I also don't spend much on shoes these days either.

Everything else I'm ok with going cheaper, but the above staples I think are worth investing. I love my Ann Taylor pants and I have some that are 5+ years old and still look great.

By some standards, I guess all of my clothes are splurges. I don't really buy "cheap" clothes. Not that I buy super expensive clothes (I don't); I buy conservative, classic clothes at major department stores like Macys, Nordstrom, Dillards, etc. When I go shopping with friends, I definitely buy very different things, and pay more for them, than they do. They buy cheap, "fun" things in great abundance, I buy a few pricey classics. Consequently, they shop ALL.THE.TIME and I shop occassionally. I never buy at clothes at Target, Payless, or Fashion Bug; which are my MILs favorite stores. Last time I took her to Macys she scoffed because a top she loved was about $28. (she put it back so I bought it for her). Cheap to me is expensive to her because she lives on a fixed income.
Never really thought of Express as a splurge. But I will check out those pants for sure.
I am pretty frugal and have outgrown my need to shop compulsively for things I won't wear. I work from home in my bathrobe most mornings, so career wear isn't a need.
I will spend for a decent handbag and luggage. I need functional and durable.
My Burberry trench which is ancient- older than my son who is in college. My Burberry balmacan came from a local thrift shop and included a 48" silk scarf. Such a deal!
Comfortable shoes- generally Danskos and Merrells for everyday
Hair products- I spend way too much on my color to use anything but good shampoo. It does make a difference
Since I tend to live in jeans or trousers, I will spend on interesting jackets/sweaters to complete the look
I really want to spurge on cardigans because I hate replacing mine all the time. I have tried AT, Old Navy, Loft, and Target so far and I am not happy with it so I am ready to splurge for something better. The Target ones have held up the best but these fade so I have to dye the cardigans after I wear it a few times. Loft cardis last longer than target cardis initially but do not take dye well so in the long run my Target cardis last longer. Old Navy fell apart and AT shrinks. My next cardigan purchases will be a small splurge at Lands End, BR, or Macys. (I have to wear petite tops so I have very few options.) If I could find a good cardi that will last I will happily shell out more money for it.
T Shirts - It is not too much of a splurge but I am not going to buy any more cheap t shirts. I am tired of replacing these all the time.
