We sometimes have town meetings at the end of the day where they serve beer/wine. I probably could have taken an irish coffee to work this week and nobody would have known. I didn't even talk to anybody yesterday.
I believe that OPM has a 2 drink limit at lunch for federal employees. Just a fun fact for you.
My office is pretty liberal about it. If you are out to lunch, sure. If it is an office event, sure. If your clients are buying, you must. But, I checked and there is no written HR policy that I can find on boozing at work. I think being drunk would be strongly frowned upon, but I don't think a beer or glass of wine at lunch would get you fired.
Verboten in current job. Verboten is job prior to that. But I've had jobs where it wasn't a big deal to have a drink or two at lunch, or where they'd break early and have a cocktail hour from 3:30 - 5.
I think it's a poor idea to be drunk at work, or to drink if the culture doesn't make room for it. But if you're in control and it's not frowned upon? why not?

We have a one drink per lunch policy and we used to partake at our holiday outings. I haven't seen anyone have a drink in years, our new boss won't let us have one, and other than that I rarely go out to lunch.
When I was a criminal researcher, sangria at lunch was a friday staple. As a teacher, never drank except for holiday parties - then we drank whatever the bosses handed to us. Oh, and booze was a common birthday/going away present.
We actually don't have a policy. It is a tradition here to get hot chocolate or coffee with sambuca on Christmas Eve. The restaurant next door offers it that day only.
completely forbidden. But I work for a brewery so we have stirct policies in place against drinking in the workplace.
This is interesting. I would think that such a place would have a more relaxed attitude about it.
It's only allowed at the company 'pub' and company organized events. But we can't drink on the premises for end of year parties, department parties, after work drinks, etc.

Well, I work from home, so I can do what I want. However, in the office the fridge is stocked with beer and happy hours at work are pretty regular (the unwritten rule is don't drink before 3).
Definitely verboten during work hours, on account of working with wild animals and all. Keepers have even been fired for making a habit of coming to work hung over. When you have to rely on coworkers to follow proper safety protocol, it's a big deal if someone's distracted.
