Montereybride keeps bagging on me to got to a DevaCurl stylist. They cut your curly hair while it's dry. Supposed to be better b/c they cut it to it's natural tendencies/form.
Anyhoo... I didn't have a Deva stylist around here, but now I do.
I called her number from the site and I think I woke her up... at 1 in the afternoon. that, or she smokes 10 packs of cigs/day.
I go along talking with her and set up an appointment for tomorrow.
I just looked up the salon.
It's listed as a barber shop.

I think I'd back out if I was getting a dye job or a long to short cut. lol
I have curly hair too, and I get how hard it can be to cut. But A) this woman doesn't sound like someone I would let anywhere NEAR my hair, and B) it puts a lot of pressure on having a good hair day when you go into the salon -- and if I'm still having good hair days, then my hair doesn't need to be cut yet.
No way bam. My salon does deva curl, but they had to go through a ton of training. Only two of the people who work there are trained in it. It's not an easy thing
No. Don't do this. I got a Deva cut from a stylist trained & certified to do the cut...I was not impressed. So no way would I let a questionable "stylist" anywhere near me with this method. Nope. Don't do it.
I appreicate the warnings and caution. At the end of the day, I've been so desperate for a trim that I've gone into a great clips. I don't know that this can be worse ()
In the end, I've got long, thick hair... I can always go get someone else to give me a cute, short cut if she fucks it up. I think.
eh - life is an adventure... I post pics tomorrow and you can tell me you told me so. haha

Was it actually bad, or just not the miracle cut you were looking for?
I'd cancel before I shelled out cash for something that might suck
Can you look online for a stylist who specializes in curly hair? I know that on yelp here, you can find stylists who are supposed to cater to those with curly hair.
From what I've see of your hair bam, I think it'd be a waste of money for you to get a Deva (or even Ouidad) cut. I'd go on naturallycurly.com and just find stylists at local salons who are familiar and good at cutting curly hair (without the Deva certification and price tag).
I found my stylist on naturallycurly.com. She is not Deva or Ouidad certified... just has GORGEOUS curly hair and has worked long and hard to understand different types of curls. I pay $60-$70 for a cut that would cost me $200 at a Deva/Ouidad salon (I've actually been a Ouidad hair model before and I prefer the way my stylist cuts my hair to the Ouidad/Deva cuts).
Don't do it. Go to naturallycurly.com and put in your zip code for stylist recommendations. My good friend cuts curly hair well and is not technically a DEVA person. If she wasn't so far away I would use her. I swear by my DEVA lady.
It's all about trial and error. From what I remember about pics I've seen in the past of your hair, it's not the type where they'll totally fuck it up if they cut it wrong. So I'd go around to different salons in your area. Keep an eye out for stylists with curly hair (as they know our plight). I just don't know if it's necessary for you to spend the money on a Deva cut given your hair type.
I personally would do it, if she was listed as certified on the site then she probably has gone through all the training to get certified, right?
I don't know that I could judge a stylist's ability based on what they sound like, or their location necessarily. If she sucks I just wouldn't use her again :-)

It wasn't bad, no. But I only asked for a shape and a trim. It would have been bad if I was looking for a new style/dramatic change. Basically, knowing the Deva technique doesn't mean you know how to cut curly hair. So now my hair looks meh styled curly or straight, and until I have more length I can't fix it.
So, not bad; I wasn't impressed, and I'm annoyed I paid extra for a mediocre at best hair cut. Which is enough for me to say don't do it if you're not comfortable with the stylist.

My DEVA is $75. Maybe your COL is higher? I'm near DC and thought that was pricey
Am BAM I get it....my cuts grow out in 2 months. My hair grows like a weed. still would be skeeved out though, ha ha
