I had to make an appointment for our cat this morning at a new vet in our new area, and she didn't bat an eye at Mushmo. They must hear some shockers at the vets' I reckon. Our other cat is Dumas.

Our dog is Abigail goes by Abby. She was named after a song about a girl named Abigail that DH's old band wrote. It can be awkward when we meet little girls named Abby. We didn't know Abigail was the #3 name for babies in the US that year until much later.

My three pets Magic-she has two different color eyes so we based her name off that because of the movie practical magic. Bloo-my husband watched a show called fosters home for imaginary friend when he got him and named him after a character in the show. Rocket-he's my special needs kitty that I found during gym class at school. We were running track and he darted "rocket fast" right up to me and my friends.

This is why I'm not a fan of pet names being regular human names. Because like you said, you meet a real human being with that name and you're subconsciously still stuck on dog.
Our dogs name is Wiggles, I don't like it. She's a retired racing greyhound and we adopted her she was 3 yrs old and knew her name. She had been through a lot so we just kept it. We usually call her Wiggs.
I love human names on animals! Growing up we had a Winnie and Rosie. My parents current dog is Eli and the previous was Boris.
One of them just passed, but my sib set of kitties were General Tso (RIP kitty boy) an his surviving sister Moo Goo Gui Pan. They were rescued from a barn adjacent to a Chinese restaurant. Sick humor, I know...
I had a lab with an ex a long time ago named, Eisenhower. Growing up I rode a horse named Crackers. She had a foal named Cheese who I also rode when she was older.

Nothing very strange for ours. Our dog is Layla and we have three cats; Jensen, Lorelai, and Jaxson. We call Jaxson "Jackjack", "Jacky", and "Jack Ass". I did once have a snail named Gary and a beta fish named Noah Astyanax Aequoreus Frost.
I love these! My cat is Woodpile. She was my parents' cat and they found her in the woodpile. The cat they found in the camper is named Camper...the black and white cat is Domino...the calico is Kali. They're very creative in their naming, lol.
The cats at my parents are/were: Ginger, Little Bit, Waldo, Rex and Skittles
Our cats are Luna and Tenius (tuh-nye-iss) which started as Tenaya after Lake Tenaya in Yosemite when we thought it was a girl- 3 months later we learned it was a boy so tried to make it sound more masculine
