Have we discussed yet? This year it's on Kiawah Island, SC. Another green home (LEED platinum certified).
I think it gets a meh from me. It's nice, and I'll take it if somebody gives it to me, but I'm not falling over myself for it. There are a couple pretty areas, but there are a couple areas where it's Kermit overload for me.
Love the exterior, the first living room, and the grey bedroom with the spindle bed. Everythign else....bleck.
the laundry looks awful with the way the washer and dryer stick out so far past the sink. Hate the green glass? ceiling in the kitchen and dining. hate the electric blue and green everywhere.
I think what bothers me even more than all the green, is that it's SO over styled. Like, take a step back, look at it, and edit it. Remove some things. I get that it's HGTV and for show, but it's just... way too much. The room with the hanging day beds (?) and ping pong table is the worst.
I don't like every detail, but overall I like it! I always get a much better feel for those houses by watching the show, it's harder for me to tell from just pictures. I really like the location, my family frequently vacations in that area of South Carolina, so maybe the house would actually get used if I won it! Here's to wishful thinking!
see, i'm a fiend for green, but even THAT green is overwhelming for me. i would prefer a less shocking green to be used throughout, if they had to use it as the unifiying color through the spaces.
i do like it well enough that i would welcome winning it. however, i haven't ever had a chance since marrying DH, b/c his neice works for the HGTV/DIY/etc. conglomerate and it makes me ineligible (sp?).
We've vacationed on Kiawah three straight summers and we love it there. It's a beautiful island, so far removed from all the commercialism. We've actually talked about retiring there way down the road. The house is beautiful but I've seen better on the island.
I love green but that's a pretty godawful shade even for me the neon queen. That kitchen isn't the right style for the house. And ditto Hawks....so much stuff...everywhere! Overall I like the style and concept.

I love that room with the dog prints from the counter up. The print on the fabric curtains is too busy. And I am in agreement with the frog tape assessment.
Interiors are disappointing. Style feels like it's all over the place. I like the one bedroom with the wood canopy bed, but the rest is just ok. The first living room is pretty nice, but nothing really special.
I hate the kitchen and dining room and the mudroom area. What's with the curtains there?
I love the exterior. Otherwise I agree that the design needs some SERIOUS editing. Almost every single room just has too much crap. too many elements. Too much.
The outside is beautiful. The inside has multiple personality disorder. There's no flow or constant throughout the interior and like a pp mentioned, it doesn't look livable.
I adore Kiawah, we go there every other summer. I love the house, not all the decor choices would be my favorites, but I could easily work with it. :-) Now if I could only win it.....
