I believe that change has been on the books for awhile and was just being phased in. It's actually similar to requirements a lot of states have adopted.
I'm still putting 18% into my tsp bc the fers pension won't be much since I plan to go as soon as I can age wise (I'll have 30 years at 53).
It's never too late to get in with the government! We've had people come in in their 40s to do 2nd careers.
I know public service gets a lot of flack, but truly for my area it's a great job, stable (well my series), and you can't be the benefits and leave. DH is a contractor and his benefits continue to be more expensive with less coverage year after year.
Performance demo still exists in the army. My coworkers from my last job are still on it.
Bonuses are pretty rare at my agency. I didn't realize how rare until I poked around the website listing all our salaries. Kind pisses you off when you see who gets bonuses. The 1% stuff sounded kinda like the shares from performance demo. That's why I was asking.
