My dining room is pretty much a part of the kitchen, so I'm not sure if curtains would be a bad idea. The window is 23 inches wide by 72 inches long. It starts about a foot off of the ground. We currently have white wood blinds in the window and it just looks so unfinished.
Do you think curtains would make it look more finished? If so, what kind?
i definitely think curtains would make it look more finished. it would be hard to make suggestions regarding color or pattern without more information on what is going on in the two rooms it will impact.
as for type of curtains regardless of color or pattern, personally, i'm a fan of grommet curtains or the hidden pocket type. we have rings in a couple of our spaces and they are okay, but i like the others better personally.
That's an odd window size for a dining room. My bathrooms have 23" wide windows- that's narrow.
Curtains could be a way to make the window seem more substantial. If you are well away from the stove and sink, I would probably do a pair of floor length panels on a decorative rod. I would hang the rod so that it was about 10" long on either side of the windown trim including finial. Then I'd stack the panels to the side of the glass so that they only cover the trim and not the glass.
Since you will be cooking in this area, I would choose a fabric which can be washed. Cooking odors and grease will get these dirty more quickly than in another room, so you probably don't want a fussy silk or velvet.
