Yes. I LOVE our granite. It's so easy to clean, & I love the undercount sink. I didn't like granite before I had it installed, but now i love it. For 2 k I would do it.

If you plan to redo the kitchen soon, why bother when you have to rebuy new counters then? If you don't redo the cabinets, I guess it would be worth it.
We're doing it for about that price sometime this year. Around here there are a lot of deals where you can get up to 40 sq feet of level one or two granite installed for ~$1800 - $2000. Might be worth pricing it out somewhere else for the sake of comparison.
Yes. We just upgraded our kitchen countertops and I LOVE them. They are really fabulous. We also replaced our bathroom countertops, they are just so much easier to clean and not worry about what you set on them. (staining etc).
FWIW-we previously had really ugly tile kitchen countertops, and in the bathrooms we had laminate.
If you redo the floors, might that impact everything else? (I admittedly know little about this, but my sister is updating her kitchen and they had to start with the floors before they did anything else.)
Do it. You will have no regrets. And spend the extra $400 for an under-mount sink. You will LOVE being able to swipe crumbs and messes right into the sink, and have less grout/putty to keep clean.
We upgraded our counters a couple years ago and couldn't be happier. I love granite.
You will certainly add value to your kitchen/home. Granite has been around for ages. It's not something that will ever appear dated, IMO.
For us no since they scratch too easily. We are going with quartz or stainless.
We're very rough with our counters and have never had a single scratch. I'm talking sliding cans across the counters, not using pot holders under hot pans, doing home improvements directly on the counter without protection, etc.
If I could do my kitchen for 2k I'd jump on it. We have a big island and have been quoted 7k just for the island. Counters would run about 2k. The cabinets aren't terrible, we could probably have them painted rather than replace but I want new backsplash and new range and fridge. dishwasher is only a couple years old. I would guess we'd be at 25k to redo the whole kitchen and I don't see that happening.

stainless steel scratches way more easily than granite. yes, eventually, the scratches will become more of a patina, but until you've worn them in a bit, the scratches are very noticeable. i still love it, loved our the stainless steel worktop we had in our old place, and would prefer it to the swampy-colored granite we have. the granite in our current place was installed over 7 years ago, and there are no scratches.
(I) Lurker coming in here. I used to be a kitchen/bath designer. The only thing that will scratch granite is another piece of granite or diamond. As long as it is propery taken care of and sealed, granite is worth it.
Edited.. The main problems we ran into, rarely, was stains (can be lifted out, but again, if properly sealed shouldn't happen, and chipping because of dropping heavy things on edges)
Our granite counters look like crap. I can only assume they were not sealed correctly before we bought our house, but now they are scratched and stained to hell. I refuse to have granite in my next kitchen.
For that price and time frame, I'd say go for it. Especially if your future renovation plans are cosmetic, not changing the cabinets.
For my house I might do it for that price, but not much more, because it would be overimproving what is already one of the 2 nicest houses on the block (not the biggest, just newest, nicest). So I'd only pay an amount equal to our enjoyment of them while we still plan to be in the house.

This.
There may be other good deals out there. Ther $1899 deal here typically includes the undermount sink and faucet.
At a certain price point, granite is expected at lower prices it's very appealing and may yeild a quicker sale. I go around with my parents about this all the time.

I would do it. If you move within 10 years, I highly doubt you would need to update the counters. You would need to update 15-20 year old laminate, so you might as well do it now while you can enjoy the upgrade.
I find granite to be easy to maintain and clean, and it is very durable. Anyone with scratched and stained granite has either a sealing or maintenance problem. You can ask the installer about their process and what you need to do to maintain it if this is a concern.

I would just be sure that the house can handle granite counter tops. If the flooring/support system isn't load bearing, it could cause problems in the house. A friend of mine upgrade to a granite island in her kitchen at the last minute and it is causing cracks in the walls. (There are other issues with the house but this is one of them.)
