I want to get two mirrors to put above our bedside tables in our master bedroom--there is a window at the center above our bed. This is from World Market and is pricey (for me, anyway) at $140 each.
Do you like this or should I just hunt at Homegoods?
It's hard to tell by the picture. A quality mirror is going to cost a bit more. If the frame is real wood and the mirror is beveled and they're decent sized (say 24 x 30") $140 is reasonable. I've spent more at Pottery Barn for mirrors that have held up well.
You might be able to find something at Homegoods, but maybe not matching. And I find they seldom have nicer decor items. Like Target, they tend to be the H&M of decor- trendy but not something for the long haul.
I don't understand the group-think hatred of gold/brass tones. If it works with your furniture, you don't have to be like everyone else. FWIW, in 10 years brushed nickel and ORB will be the new polished brass.
Does it have to be a mirror? Usually designers use mirrors opposite of natural light sources to enlarge and brighten a space. Next to a window and matching seems sort of odd. I could see maybe a mirror on one side and a gallery of small pictures on the other.

I've used this trick before with mirrors--by putting them behind our beside table lamps, it makes the room brighter and appear bigger (and we have a small bedroom). I did this in a previous room and was inspired by BrynAlexandra. I'm VERY picky about art, so I am not sure I could find something that large of scale and in a matching pair that I would be wild about.
And, GASP, I'm mixing chrome and gold in the room!
i've been enjoying what i've been seeing with designers mixing metal finishes (using a lot more gold or brass with other metal finishes) in rooms these days. i haven't ventured there quite yet myself, but wouldn't hesitate if i liked what i saw and it made sense with everything else in the room.
i went to the world market website and it seems like a good sized mirror and would work well with what you intend. they have regular sales on their artwork and mirrors, so you could just keep an eye out for one of those.
