We're doing a Secret Garden theme. I'm having an outdoor garden party, and I've been planning my flower beds in my head all year, and I'm going to have some woodland animals with the floral decorations. I'm going to do a scavenger hunt in the flower for the older kids, tea party, and little cookie keys to the garden as favors. I'm doing finger sandwiches, lots of flavored iced teas, lemonades. I've thought way too much about this. But my whole family is going to come down from Pennsylvania, so I want to make it fun and special.
My H just asked me yesterday what day I was planning to do his birthday. I hadn't thought about yet. He said well we need to figure it out so I can make sure I can get the day off (he works most weekends). Now all you guys are talking about it. I guess I need to start making plans.
I don't understand not having anyone to invite? I don't mean that snarky....just who do you spend any time with? Invite them.
I know from other people's parties that my older friends would rather just send a gift than go to a kid's party. And my younger friends are spread pretty far out. Just wish I knew more people around here with kids.

I am in the same boat. DH and I have a small set of friends, most of them childless couples that will probably not be interested or even bother to rsvp. I can count on one hand the amount of children we know, so it won't really be a kid party, mostly family and some friends who want free food lol.

I LOVE this theme and will probably do it for Hazel when she is older. However, any time anyone says woodland animals I think of this.
Which is really messed up!
Ahahahaha, we're meant to be, PC. I love how messed up you are, just like me.

Probably rubber duckies. Right now, she LOVES her bath toys. Plus, it's easy.
I'm trying to figure out how to do it at a park where we can see real duckies. There's a really nice one with an indoor area by IL's but parking is $$$. IDK if the one by me has a sheltered area for if it rains aside from a tiny picnic pavilion.
I want to have a lot of white balloons to look like bubbles, mini duckies as party favors, and have a tub-shaped cake with a gum paste duckie "swimming" on top.
Trudy, I love the idea of Cute as a Button! I want to steal it and spend hours gluing buttons on to things and making buttons out of fondant for cupcakes - I could seriously devote my life to it.
I think I'll do a comic book theme for Hank but I'm not sure yet. It think it'll probably wind up looking like the vintage superhero stuff pp's were talking about.
I want to try to make fondant buttons! Can I do it? I don't think I'm that crafty.
I think it wouldn't be hard, you'd need a circle to punch out the button shape. A smaller circle to make a dent inside for a ridge and then something pokey to make the button holes. Easy peasy

bakeat350.blogspot.com/2010/06/for-little-dudes.html You wouldn't have to use piping tips like this person did. If you had a small round cutter, you could probably just use those small coffee stir straws to poke out the tiny holes.

unsurprisingly, I love this. it's the cutest thing I've ever heard of. I'm so far behind on all this....

I love this! The Secret Garden is on my list of book themed parties to hopefully do while she's too little to fight back. I love that book!

I'm doing a cookie theme. Mostly because for the favors I want to do a cookie bar, like the candy bar that a lot of people do at their wedding. I'm going to try to keep it small though, just immediate family and close friends, since we don't have a ton of room inside our house and it's sketchy whether we'll be able to do it in the yard in mid April.

We are going all out bc it will serve as a sort of house-warming party as well. We have a TON of people to invite (big families, lots of friends with kids) and we will need activities to keep kids occupied and favors for kids to take home. Our front runner theme is jungle animals or just monkeys. We are thinking of saying on the invite, "our little monkey is turning one" and having a face painter come to paint the kids' faces as different animals. We will have alcoholic jungle juice and "jungle juice" punch for the kids. The favors will contain the game Barrel of monkeys. I really like the Onederland theme, too, because it is more girly than the jungle idea but I don't know what activities or favors for kids to go with it.

I love all the ideas in this thread too! I like the idea of swapping and using some of these for later birthdays for sure. Plus, I keep selfishly thinking of ALL the adorable picture threads there's going to be of these sweet parties and babies March through May. I am ridiculously excited.

I think my theme is "We survived a year with twins, please join us in drinking while we watch them eat cake."
I want to come to this party!
And dahli, I also want to come to D's, because your Mexican food sounds like HEAVEN. I also read you had a Western spaghetti party for H? How cool are you?!
