I found a sealed container of Philly Cream Cheese cooking cream in the fridge. The expiration date says August. I opened it and it smells and looks fine. Would you cook with this?
I've been known to use regular cream cheese waaaaaaay past the date. If it's sealed that stuff doesn't really go bad. (it also freezes fine if anybody is wondering - it just has to be whipped after thawing to fix the texture)
So yep, I'd probably use it.
except MH would totally yell at me. He's been all gung ho about obeying expiration dates since I got pregnant.
I probably would as long as it has been sealed and it smells / looks fine. That is one of the wonderful things about dairy, it will tell you when it is not good.
If you know what it should taste like, take a tiny taste to see if the flavor is right or if it tastes spoiled. A little bit *shouldn't* kill you
It'll be fine. Things like sour cream, yogurt and cream cheese are good for way past they're shelf life esp. if sealed. If it doesn't look smell or taste bad it's just fine.

I feel like if dairy says that your milk product is fine...that's kinda the definitive word, right?
But really, it's not like salmonella in sliced melons or something. When dairy products go funky, you can TELL.

LOL. Yep. Most dairy products are formed at pretty high heat or double pasteurized so it takes awhile for stuff to grow. It's different than regular milk by a long shot. A lot of it is legalise on the exp. dates. I mean the general American public would flip if dairy products had them months out. And yeah, it's pretty obvious if dairy is bad just from smell or look.

I wouldn't. While I agree that you can usually tell pretty easily, I just wouldn't trust it. 1 month is one thing. But 6 months? Not worth it...for me.
