Anybody feel like shopping? I want bedding to covet.
Not sure when we're going to squeeze the money out of our budget to actually BUY it, but want to start trying to find something I love so I can start to argue with MH about style and color combos now.
Our master bedroom is painted in SW Rainwashed. (partially painted)
Swatch:
White trim & doors, oak floors with a light stain, one eastern window (100% shaded), one southern (50% shaded).
This rug (sorry, craptastic picture. It's since been cleaned and looks much nicer. I don't love it, but it was free.)
All of our furniture is assorted shades of medium toned wood, but it's all mismatched crap that will eventually get replaced. Most likely by more wood furniture - medium to dark in tone. Probably cherry.
Windows are likely going to get just white wood-look blinds for now. Curtains could be in our future, but maybe not.
I'm not a huge fan of bold color combos in my bedroom - I want it to be soothing. But I like pattern. Any thoughts?
How about painting your furniture the background color of the rug and getting crisp white bedding - or one of the other colors in the rug - cream/beige ?(not sure of the color on my screen). White bedspread, blue throw, pillows with pattern, artwork , stripe side curtain panels with rug colors.
edit - change out or paint the blades on the ceiling fan white
The furniture we have now isn't worth painting. It's a mix of 10 year old sauder brand particle board crap, a handmedown Ikea bedframe that has belonged to two of MH's aunts, and one solid pine dresser that was part of my childhood bedroom set.
So new bedding will pretty much be the only nice thing in the room for a while. Which doesn't make much sense from a D&R POV I guess. But our current duvet cover has a giant hole in it thanks to our dog trying to dig through our bed.
I had good luck finding nice bedding at reasonable prices at TJ Maxx. I usually decorate around the bedding. The paint color and rug are nice soothing colors.
I'm still a fan of painting the furniture maybe white? You might not want to get rid of it then if it is all the same color. I want to say you can paint particle board after sanding the veneer a little but don't quote me on that.
Macy's is having a huge sale of designer linens. I almost picked up some sferra at half price.
yeah...no. The bed and pine dresser may get painted and become guest room furniture. They're at least sturdy, even if I really don't like the style of the dresser. My other dresser and the nightstands are just complete crap. They're falling apart. The dresser is currently held together by most of a bottle of wood glue and i'm waiting for it to fall apart again.
If you're getting a new bedroom set down the line I wouldn't bother painting it. Way too much of a PITA esp. on particle board you'll be getting rid of. I'd just live with it and get the bedding you want coordinated to the rug and the paint.
It's okay in my eyes to paint some wood you'll have awhile..but painted particle board..looks like well..painted particle board to me. It might make it worse for you.
Some things just aren't worth the work to match bedding exactly.
That's my thought anyways. Our bedroom set while adultish with a decent stain was Hs from childhood. It screams late 80s and the quality is crap. I refuse to paint it. It'll be gone in less than five more years hopefully..and by the time I get that all painted it'll be 5 years anyways. I just do bedding and decor I like in the meantime and forget about it. Somethings there's just no working with.
If you want to shell out..Ballard has some really nice bedding. Even Amazon is good if you just want 46347437347 options to sort through to narrow down a style/color/pattern you like.
LOL, Dairy, exactly. There's just no way I'm going to spend weeks painting Walmart furniture that I bought Sophomore year of college so it can look marginally better between now and when we finally replace it.
I think it would look nice with a folded coverlet at the foot of the bed and coordinating pillows. You could choose white, aqua or navy.
Serena and Lily has really nice bedding. Pine cone hill has nice bedding too, but both places can be pricey. I always find really nice bedding at Home Goods.
You could even do simple white bedding with a navy or aqua trim.
