H and I just booked a child free vacation for Feb. I'm looking at the website and have a couple questions about the dress code. Gentleman: Recommended: Long pants, collared shirts, casual shoes. Permitted: Formal bermuda, dress sandals. NOT PERMITTED: Baseball caps, peaks, tank tops & flip-flops, sport shorts. GI DRESS CODE BREAKFAST/ LUNCH - To enhance our unique breakfast and lunch experience, please comply with the following casual dress code in all gourmet restaurants: Ladies: Recommended. Sun dresses, elegant sandals, T-shirts and skirts Permitted: Shorts, T-shirts, flip flops Gentlemen: Recommended: Long pants, formal bermuda, polo shirt, sleeved T-shirt, sandals or tennis shoes Permitted: Shorts, sleeved T-shirts, flip flops NOT PERMITTED: Swimming trunks, bikinis, swimsuits, tank tops, sleeveless shirts, baseball caps or any type of hat.
So can I not wear any type of tank top or just not plain cotton tank tops? Also, no sleeveless tops? It's Mexico how can I not wear tank tops or sleeveless tops?
They just don't want you dressing like a typical American slob of a tourist. I appreciated the dress code when we have been on resorts. You're really just following the dress code of a lot of the locals. In Mexico, I never saw a local dressed in a tank top, flip flops, or even jeans. Save that stuff (minus jeans) for the beach. I would avoid sleeveless, but I highly doubt they will turn you away if you look well kept.
I think that they are basically trying to avoid people coming to breakfast in their bathing suits or with beach wear type clothes. They want it to be a little more formal. I'd just pick up a few t-shirts that you can wear with a basic skirt. We did a resort vacation this year and I just work various colored t-shirts and a comfy black skirt for breakfast. You could also probably wear a dress with a light short sleeved sweater on top.
Where are you guys going? It must be international. Other countries are not as casual as the US and not always as comfortable with bare shoulders.
I would honestly be surprised if you weren't allowed to sit down and eat because you're wearing a tank top and shorts/skirt. Unless you've booked a very ritzy 5+ star that caters to the rich and famous. But all of the 5 stars we've stayed at in Mexico breakfast is shorts and tanks. And buffet dinners are also fine with that although I usually wear a skirt and nicer tank/sleeveless because I put more effort into my evening dress.
I always bring a couple of pashminas/wraps with me - if someone DID object to what you were wearing just add that to your outfit. But I doubt they will.
The big thing is men don't wear shorts to the a la carte dinners, and don't walk in in just your bathing suit. Other than that, anything you have/buy should be fine.

I have a lot of warm weather clothes, but I live in AZ. I would defy they to try to kick me out of a restaurant because I showed up in one of my sleeveless silk tops.
Just dress better than a beach bum and since you are buying stuff anyway get t-shirts instead of tanks. You will thank youself for not sunburning your shoulders later.
If you would wear it to the pool, don't wear it to eat. With that said, I would think any sort of summer dress would work for you - sleeves or no sleeves.
What resort are you going to? I think they just don't want men to show their (hairy) pits during meals but in my experience, people just wear whatever they want anyways. That dress is cute!
I think you are over thinking this. Just wear cute stuff. They won't turn you away. The link you posted is fine. I think they just don't want you showing up in an old navy tank and shorts with a bikini strap showing. Look nice and no one will hassle you.
I would get a bunch of sundresses, very casual for breakfast and just a little dressier for dinner. I can see designating a difference between a sleeveless dress and a sleeveless t-shirt. Most people would probably be fine in a tasteful sleeveless shirt, but allowing them opens the door for others to show up looking trashy / bummy.
But if you want to wear tops and shorts/skirts, get some cap sleeve ones, but I would also bring some tasteful sleeveless shirts in case they aren't really enforcing it. Or wear a tank with a tissue-weight cardigan that you take off as soon as you leave the dining room.
Or don't go on a vacation that dictates what you wear. lol.
Please post a review when you get back. Years ago, we went to El Dorado Royale and I remember the food being really good but my H says that we remember it being good because we had low expectations back then...lol.
MX, we're going to mexico - average temps for Feb are in the upper 70's. missy, I'm not a huge AI person, but this place gets really good reviews - hopefully it lives up to the hype. And if not I'll just drown my sorrows in tequila

A fair amount of men have Bermuda shorts though. I don't think they mean the full Bermuda style outfit with blazer, shorts and socks, just that even "fancy" Bermuda shorts aren't ok and that men must wear long pants.
I would say no basic tank tops and no strapless or very thin straps. Something that is a nice blouse that happens to have short or no sleeves is probably not going to get you in trouble.

I was just at one of the sister resorts to where you're going and ended up having to wear a maxi dress to dinner one night thanks to a sunburn. No one said a word. As long as you're wearing a "nicer" sundress, you'll be fine.
Also, breakfast was just not swimsuits with coverups. I wore t-shirts and shorts and flip flops because we went to the pool every day immediately afterward.

Are you really going to EDSS? I LOVED IT! We went for our one year anniversary a few years ago. We had a swim up room.
The food was SOOOO good.
That being said, to breakfast I wore skirts/shorts with tank tops or sleeveless tops. I wore dresses to all of our dinners, many with spaghetti straps.
They just don't want you coming into the restaurants in your bathing suits.
You will get turned away from dinner with shorts or sneakers, though.
The asian restaurant with the sushi was so good. I would love to go back. We were supposed to get a beachfront dinner but it kept raining at night so we never got it.
Just throw a cardigan or pashmina over it during meals. No big deal.
There is no way I could have worn a cardigan or pashmina over my tank top when I was in Mexico. It was SOO hot to me. I was dying seating even in tank tops.
If the review shows my full name, please let me know so I can delete the link. I keep trying to turn that feature off on TA but it somehow keeps coming back. It should show from user "amamba".
