I have a totally awesome super cool meeting with a high level exec in my dream field on Thursday. I think, as long as I'm not a total creeper at our meeting, he wants to help me get my foot in the door.
So of course I'm being a total creeper and I looked him up on LinkedIn.
Apparently we are like friends-of-friends and there is a link I can click to be "introduced". Is that weird, though? Should I probably just wait until after the meeting to connect directly?
I don't know LinkedIn etiquette. I've never really used it before now, but I'm trying to be better about networking professionally.
I would think that's a bit weird -- I'd wait until you've established a real relationship before connecting with him.
Also, as a high-level exec he may get a lot of these types of requests so you don't want to annoy him.
I don't think it is at all weird or creepy that you looked him up on Linkedin. I think you're just doing your homework and preparing for a productive meeting, and that's a good thing (though I wouldn't be all "So I see you graduated from Colgate in 1984" at the meeting... I'd pretend to be ignorant).
