During her 2-month appointment, we mentioned that Little HB's joints were somewhat loose (popping when we changed her, etc.) The pediatrician recommended that we take Little HB in for an ultrasound on her hips --she doesn't think anything is wrong, and didn't notice anything in her exam, but just wanted to make confirm.
Has anyone's kid ever had an ultrasound before? How do they do them on infants? Any advice? Little HB is kind of a squirmy one...
I'm not worried, I just like to know what to expect before we go in
Our practice does it on all girls who were breech (even for a day) after 20w or something like that - both my girls had it done. It goes pretty quickly, and you just sit on the table and hold them in whatever position they request. It's really easy.
C has had two, one for his sacral dimple and one for his kidneys. They were done at the local children's hospital ad the tech was very experienced with little ones so they know how to work around the squirming. He really didn't mind it. He laid on the table and I was right next to him the whole time.
C pooped on the table both times though, LOL. That was embarrassing.
DS had one for his head at 4 months I think. Even though his huuuge head is hereditary, our pedi wanted it checked out anyway (sometimes big head growth is driving by brain swelling). We made an appointment at the pediatric wing of the hospital. They did the u/s through his fontenel. He had to lay on a table, but I was right there the whole time. The tech was experienced with squirmy babies. It was NBD, he didn't even cry.

DS1 had an u/s to check out a heart murmur when he was 4 months or so. I was worried but they had some quiet toys in the u/s room that we just held up in front of him while he laid down. The one we used for most of it was an aquarium sleep thingie like you strap on the side of a crib. That plus softly singing lullabies and he chilled out through the whole thing.
DS had one on his hips (he was breech) and it was nbd. We laid him on his side and they did the u/s and then they did the other hip. He had his diaper on but unfastened-no shirt and no pants.
DS also had one on his neck for a lump. He wasn't really happy having his head held still and someone push on it but again, nbd.
My daughter had an emergency ultrasound at 3 weeks due to a suspected intestinal obstruction (she was fine though). We went to the ER and they got us right in. I held her on the table while they did it. She peed everywhere (!) and screamed throughout the whole thing but the staff was great.
DD had a lump pm her leg at 3.5 weeks. They were very nice and just held her down while they did the u/s. They didn't even mind when she peed all over the table!
DD was frank breech, so had an US at 2 weeks, another after being in a brace for 2 more weeks, then an x-ray at 2 months. It's quick and easy - her biggest complaint was from being cold. Over all though, piece of cake!
DS had one on his testacles when he was 6 weeks. Talk about squirmy! It was much easier than I expected. The techs were awesome, I just had to hold him down. I did get peed on.
