On Saturday, I baked pies for the family get together on Sunday. I took the leftover pie crust, cut it into small pieces, sprinkled it with cinnamon and sugar, and baked it, just like my mom used to do. As I was putting them into the oven, one slid right off the cookie sheet to the bottom back of the oven. Before long, of course, the smoke alarm starts going off, but I can't reach this one, even with the step ladder. So, I run outside, scream and flail around to get Ian's attention (he was using the edge trimmer and didn't hear me at first). He comes in, takes the battery out of the smoke alarm to stop the infernal beeping.
And at the end of all this, I burnt the damn pie crust squares! I swear, I looked at them and they were almost done, and 30 seconds later they were black!

Oops! Baking does involve the art of perfect timing, it doesn't take long to ruin a perfectly good batch. I have learned that lesson before, too. At least the pies were saved, and Ian felt like a hero.

At least the pie was good!
We used wax paper under the pizza and there was smoke pouring from our oven last night. Luckily I opened the windows and turned the fans on before the smoke alarm went off.

Mmmm...my mom used to the same thing with leftover pie crust. I'm so sorry they burnt.
Honestly, if I was in that situation, the smoke alarm would have suffered death by broom stick. That noise just makes my skin crawl, and I do pretty much anything to make it stop. I think you showed amazing self-restaint.
