I ran a 15k in early November, at which I caught the flu. I ended up getting super sick and then getting some chest mess after that, so basically I did not run at all for the rest of the month. Then spotty running in December combined with no spin classes (usually go 2x a week, but at the university so they stop classes when the semester ends), plus my mom visiting for a week, and I feel like I have hardly worked out at all.
I am signing up for some races this spring, but I feel like such a turd right now. It is going to be almost like starting over. I know I will feel better once I am back in my routine, but I feel oddly anxious about it.
I hear ya. I've had a couple bad colds & bronchitis for part of November and all of December, so my workouts have been very minimal to non-existent for quite a while. I have a super short aquathlon in a couple weeks that I might walk or just skip. I guess the sooner I get back to it, the better I'll feel, right?
I say give it 2 weeks back with NO expectations about your fitness. You might be surprised at how quickly it returns if you can just get through that rough re-start period.
Our whole city has been rocked with these nasty bugs the last couple of months. CB, I hope you feel better for the dash & splash!

I got slammed with bronchitis right after my last race in the beginning of November and had to really cut back on all my activity, it totally blows. I've just started feeling up to getting back into it. Ditto Kams on giving it a week or two, it gets better. Rough but better
I won't say it's easy to get back onto the saddle, because it's not. But what helped me was thinking about how we are our own worst critics. No one else cares (or should care) that we are a little slower than usual. And as others said, you'll get back to where you were soon. Just look forward to the race itself and how fun it will be to be out there racing again!
I bet it won't take you very long to get back to where you were. You were in great shape when you got sick, you'll bounce back quickly....mark my words!
