Our dogs are generally good but like to bark at anything they see when looking out the window and when people come over. With the baby on the way, we'd like to prevent this. Anyone use citronella collars? Do they work? Does it get all over the dog's fur? Do you have any recommendations?
Other info: we have tried the bark stopper that gives a high pitch sound but it doesn't work. Also, our golden/collie has worn a shock collar we borrowed from a friend but he rarely felt the shock through all his neck fur. The other dog is a mini dachsund. When one barks, so does the other.

We never found one that worked correctly. We bought a few different models and had to return all of them. We just eventually gave up.
Our trainer told us to hide a spray bottle and spray them on the butt when they bark, but only if they never see the spray bottle. We found this impossible. We still have a barking problem....

We tried this. Our dog loved getting sprayed with water. Loved it. He began acting out in order to get sprayed.
I really wouldn't worry about the baby either. They are used to loud noises an will adjust to almost anything.
Barking doesn't bother ds while he's awake, but he gets woken up from his naps constantly because of my dog barking (and that's with a white noise machine too). It's definitely a problem in our house.

We used one for our dog. It worked well as long as we kept the feathering light in the area the collar sits (brushing worked fine). It did need to get refilled at first every few days, but after a while they figured it out and we hardly had to use it. We used one that you stuck the bottle on and pushed down for like 20 secs so it was easy to fill.
PP, what kind did u have that sprayed the other dog? The kind we had work on vibrations (like the shock collars), so we never had an issue with our other dog getting sprayed when she wasn't barking or the dog with the collar getting sprayed when the other barked.
I believe they truly are the best option since I feel shock collars are cruel and the high pitched noise ones can make them bark more and damage their hearing. You may have to try a few different brands. PetSmart does price matching in store and will take them back for a certain period of time after purchase, so I would try there first
