Can we talk paint colors in your house?

I know this isn't H&G, but humor me. We are thinking about repainting our dining room and kitchen. What colors are yours?

Our kitchen is a light tan. Dining room is a pale pink. The rest of the house is mostly shades of blues and grays, with two white rooms still, and H's office is green.

Kitchen is a pumpkin orange.

Dining room is a mossy green on top and cream on the bottom (I have wainscoting)

Our kitchen is a tan-gray stone color. The kitchen cabinets are a grayish green color. The dining room is the same stone color as the kitchen, but with dark, dark green (almost black) under the chair rail. All of the woodwork throughout the house is bright white.

Living room is yellow. Powder room is mossy green. Basement is gray. Master bedroom is pale green. Kid's room is bluish-purple. Upstairs bathroom is undetermined. The old owners had yellow with red and orange tile floor. It needs to be re-painted and re-tiled. Badly.

I like the sound of your dining room bully. When we moved in the whole house was painted a neutral tan/beige color. We have painted 3 of the 4 bedrooms - blue, green and gray. The bathrooms are blue, green and purple and we were thinking about a burgundy/wine color in the dining room. DH wants to do a bright (almost lime?) green in the kitchen. We don't have many exposed walls in the kitchen so it wouldn't be overload I don't think. I'm nervous about the dark color in the dining room though.

It can't hurt to try. I like fun and dramatic dining rooms. And you can always paint over it. Try hanging up a couple swatches for a while, move them around the room so you can see them in different lights. Your H might find you don't need to go as dark as he's originally thinking.

What color is your dining room furniture?

My dining room is dark but it works. My house is old (1928) and has all the original gum wood trim so I try and stick with colors that work with the darker wood.

What color is your dining room furniture?

We have a glass top table and some chairs that have burgundy seat covers right now. I'm not sure we'd keep the same covers if we painted the walls, but those are easy to change.

We got our dining room set on the cheap at our old apt complex when they were selling the model furniture. The chairs actually are bright yellow with monkeys all over them. 8-D I kid you not. So yes, this whole set will be replaced soon anyways.

Kitchen is a pretty green color and the dining room is red.

I wasn't sure about either when we bought the house, but now I really like them both.

If it were me, I'd balance out dark walls with a lot of cream, and use accessories with reflective qualities, like a big mirror, glossy ceramic vases, etc, so it doesn't feel dark and dreary in there.

Living room is a lighter, sage green. Dining room/soon to be DS's bedroom is a pale blue/grey. The hall is a nutty brown color and DD's bedroom is purple (her choice).

1st floor bath, kitchen, and breakfast nook still need to be painted but work needs to be done in those rooms before we decide to paint.

My house is still swathed in for-sale beige throughout, with sage in the hall bath and eggshell in the kitchen and master bath. The only rooms we've painted since moving in are the kiddo's room and the garage. I would love to re-paint all the beige if I had the time/wherewithal, but for now it's tolerable.

They are hideous. I might have to take the covers off and PIP. The lady who designed the model apt was obsessed with monkeys and had this fabric all over the place. Weird!

We were thinking a lot of cream too. Drapes, place settings, etc. A big mirror sounds like a good idea too. Thanks!

I feel the need to mention I inherited my grandmother's chaise longue and had it re-covered in a rust-colored (and muted) sort-of Indian-looking fabric that includes ample monkeys. I adore them, and it's the monkeys that made me choose the fabric in the first place, but it's just one piece and meant to be an accent piece at that.

LOL my monkeys also have palm trees, but they are not climbing them and they don't look crazed or drug-addled or anything. I just felt the need to disclose.

My house is a neutral beige with lots of white trim. With pops of color. My dining room has 3 beige walls and a bright green accent wall. The adjacent kitchen only has one wall. It's a galley kitchen and it's a brighter green. Connecting them is my living room that has a Peacock blue fireplace wall.

Please excuse my look in this photo. I was quite a few pounds heavier AND apparently didn't realize it because I really whored it up that Halloween... which I RARELY do. I like to go as funny creatures for Halloween. This year, H was Hef and I was a bunny.

It's a little dark to tell, but this is literally the only pic I have on-hand of our dining room.

Repainting the kitchen is still on my bucket list from 2012. Whoopsie! Right now it's a light gray, but eventually we plan to paint it light blue. There's too much gray/white in the kitchen with the countertops/cabinets - I need some color. The front-runner is Smoke (Benjamin Moore, I think).

The dining room is a greige color. I wanted something neutral to connect the kitchen and the sage green living room. It's called Annapolis Gray (Benjamin Moore), but it leans more toward the beige end.
