For the baby, I like Burt's Bees shampoo/wash, Aveeno lotion, Aquaphor for normal diaper changes and dry skin, and Boudreaux's Butt Paste for diaper rash. Infant acetaminophin would be good to have on hand, as well as an ear thermometer and cool mist humidifier if you don't already have them.
If you don't already have them on hand, for nursing/port-partum needs I would consider breast pads (I like Lansinoh for disposables and Lily Pads for reuseable down the line when you are leaking less), a tube of lanolin (I like Lansinoh), Soothies, Dermaplast spray and Tucks or other witch hazel pads (both for soothing purposes in the event that you tear), overnight maxi pads, Advil, and stool softeners.
FWIW, our pedi is anti both Orajel and Hylands. Hylands had a recall a couple years back when the FDA found too much variation in the levels of belladona (which is toxic in large doses) in the tablets. They claim to have corrected the issue, but it still makes me nervous enough that I would prefer to just use teethers, frozen washcloths, etc.
Triple paste for diaper rash. $$$ but works the best for us.
Won't work with cloth unless you use a liner. Try grandma els for cloth safe diaper cream.
I'd stock up on baby sunscreen and get a big jar of aquaphor for winter skin.
Oops sorry! I forget that not everything is useable with cds. I'd do the aquaphor then Cloudbee! And ditto on the lanolin cream if you are going to bf. I use it on DS's dry spots on his face, and I also used it the first couple of weeks when his chin was all chapped from breastfeeding. It.is.awesome. I even use it on my lips still now
We use Boogie Wipes, because they seem to be softer on DD's noses vs. just a tissue. Depending how many wipes you have, I would consider buying more. Also, maybe some baby tylonal or motrin.
Also, my pediatric dermatologist (DD had to go to a dermatologist at 2 months) told us that you can use any kind of sunscreen for your LO. He is one of the top in the nation. (He said he and he partner actually started the rule of no sunscreen before 6 months.) He said that the children sunscreen usually has scents and other things add that are not necessary and just increase the price. He told us nutrogina is a great brand, or Elta.
For cloth diapers, CJs butt cream and coconut oil are both safe for diaper cream and come highly recommended. You can also use the coconut oil as a moisturizer and for many other purposes.
Anyone know what diaper rash creams, etc., can be used with CDs and a liner?
I LOVE [url=http://www.drugstore.com/earth-mama-angel-baby-angel-baby-bottom-balm/qxp143080?catid=182484Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm.
It's cd safe. Wouldn't hurt to order a few of them. We currently have 4 jars. (daycare, 1st floor, 2nd floor & 1 backup stock)
You could also get EMAB Nipple Butterif you plan to BF. You don't have to wipe off before nursing. I also use this on M's hands if they're really dry/chapped because it's fine if he ends up putting them in his mouth before it fully absorbs.
all of this.
we're on our 3rd tub of bottom balm-we use it nightly. it lasts forever.
Honestly, I wouldn't stock up too much. Use the samples that your Pedi and your OB provide and decide from there which ones work best. I had no idea my son would have such sensitive skin and most of the stuff we were gifted/given had to be given away. I would have been kinda annoyed if I paid for all of it and was unable to use it.
Also - what about teething gel? Good to have on hand, or not really needed?
We made a teething gel at home from olive oil with a few drops of clove oil drops. We tried other things, but this and a homeopathic thing called Camilia (sp?) by the French company Boron worked the best. They didn't sell Camilia everywhere at the time, though. When the molars were coming in, the only thing that seemed to help was Ibuprofen.
