I've posted a few times about my DS's health condition. In order to control it, he requires three subcutaneous shots per day. On New Year's Eve, DH (who stays at home with DS) was giving him his 9 am shot and DS was being very squirmy. The needle ending up breaking off in his leg.
We then spent most of NYE morning at the doctor's office and then the hospital getting x-rays to determine whether the needle was actually in his leg or if it had broken off outside his leg and DH just didn't see it.
It is in his leg. DS is scheduled for surgery on Monday to remove it. DH is beating himself up about how he should have held him down better so he wouldn't have been moving so much. I keep repeating that it could have happened to any of us, but he doesn't listen.
So not only does DS have to go through yet another medical procedure, we start off the new insurance year with a large expense. Ugh.
I'm so sorry. This is not anyone's fault. It's par for the course when you're giving injections to a child. I'm sorry he has to have surgery and that you have a large expense ahead of you.
I hope he heals up quickly, and that your husband doesn't beat himself up over what happened.
I am so sorry. That sounds terrible. My oldest requires daily injections as well (for growth hormones) and that is a fear of ours, too. I hope the surgery goes smoothly. Is he in a lot of pain from the needle in his leg? =(
Actually, he's not in any pain. After we got the x-ray, we were waiting around the hospital to see if our doctor wanted us to go to the ER. I was chasing DS around and he was giggling and laughing and having a great time.
The surgeon's nurse told us to go to the ER if he acts like it bothers him or if he starts showing signs of an infection.
Oh, and I don't know if it was clear in my OP, but I don't blame DH at all. The needles are SO fine that I'm kind of surprised it hasn't happened before now. We bend them all the time when we're filling his syringes.
