I had one over the summer. For me, it was uncomfortable, but not as bad as I thought it would be. I took 4 advil before. I was fine after (I could have gone back to work). I do recommend taking a pad w/ you, as the dye leaks out afterward.
They were able to do an initial read in that appointment and let me know if there were any concerns.

What else do you want to know?
Same here. I did go back to work. Totally fine.
They had a hard time getting the cath in via my cervix (she said, "Have you ever been told you have a tilted cervix?" and I was all, " " lol), but once that was done I was totally fine.

What am I concerned about?
Pretty much the test itself - Dr Google makes it sound like it's very uncomfortable. I'm glad to hear that it wasn't such a big deal for you guys.
I've heard about the dye leaking back out, so I was already expecting that part.
Of course, this only happens if I don't get pregnant during this cycle. We did blood testing (sometime after o but before af) and semen analysis - both came back normal. Since we've been trying for over a year this is the next diagnosis step.
Had it. It was uncomfortable and I unfortunately didn't get the memo or forgot about taking ibprofuen beforehand. I almost fainted after but I think that was because I was so anxious before and I didn't take the I producer to take the pain off so I was in a lot of pain. I ended up not going to work because of that.
Honestly, I didn't take anything before or after, and I really felt pretty good. I expected to spend the rest of the day (had it around 1 p.m.) at home, but I went back to work feeling fine.
The test was really fast (maybe 10 minutes start to finish), and the worst part was cramping when they put the cath in. Strong period like type camps, but they passed quickly.
I was really concerned about the dye leaking back out as well, but didn't experience that at all. The hospital did give me a big ol' maxi pad. Please remember to take panty liners with you. I wore the pad home because I was worried, but promptly switched to a panty liner and was fine.
It was uncomfortable, but not terribly painful. Pinching sensation when they put in the catheter, pressure, but I was distracted by watching the screen as the dye flowed through my tubes. I got feedback on the spot from my doctor since they could see there was no blockage.
Afterwards, I had some minor leaking of the dye and some spotting. I then had some fairly heavy bleeding, almost like a full period, for a couple of days after. They said this was totally normal, as it can "flush things out".
All in all, not a terrible experience at all. Don't let Dr. Google scare you.
Early. Before you ovulate. I can't remember when I did it (I suck at this stuff, I suppose) but I'll sort back through my calendar and tell you.
I had to reschedule it because the first time I scheduled it they were worried I may have already ovulated, so I bumped it to the next cycle but earlier.
Though I have a couple of fibroids, the SHG did not hurt that much. Some minor discomfort, no biggie.
Though I have clear tubes, the HSG hurt like hell. Like "WTF is going on, dude?" pain. Take the ibuprofen, and just prepare yourself for some pain. If you don't have any, you're gravy.
It's good you're asking for actual experience...half my problem was that I wasn't expecting it to be that painful.
I had my HSG a few hours ago. I was way worked up over it. It was rather uncomfortable (seriously the heartburn I had from the antibiotic was way worse than the actual procedure), but very quick (I was in and out and done in 20 minutes) and not NEARLY as bad as I feared. It was a little weird to be half naked on the table rolling from side to side with an audience. I had to get it done b/w CD5-11.
I easily could have gone back to the office, but it done in the afternoon and I just came straight home.
They gave me a pad on the way out and said to expect some bleeding and leakage of fluid.
