One of DH's college buddies (with whom we've done weekend trips) got married in November. We were unable to go and sent a GC. She was pregnant at their wedding, and is due in February.
I went online to send them a baby gift, and they have a registry set up at BRU. I was all set to send them A&A swaddle blankets b/c that's our #1 most-used baby item - but, I'm wondering if I should stick to the registry in this case (and something practical at that) b/c fair or not, they may not have as many showers or get as many baby gifts because they JUST got married. WDYT?
I vote registry. If there's a chance they may not receive as many (or as $) gifts off of their baby registry, then I would definitely try to get something off of that. I've really tried to take a step back from sending what I think they'll enjoy, and provide what they have already researched/will match, etc.

I ended up buying bottles off their registry plus a book with their daughter's name as the name of the main character (they bought us a similar book for DS1 when he was born). Hopefully that straddles fun vs practical. And, of course, gift receipts for both.
Perfect! Often the registry stuff is not fun for the giver, but the recipient will love getting these things and prepping the nursery. I've bought a handful of toiletries, our CDs, and other random items. It's been fun to nest and organize them in his room.

Cloudbee - totally agree about the nursery. When in doubt I buy the changing pad, sheets, etc. Getting the nursery set up is such a big deal even if you already know the baby won't sleep there for months.
