I don't know if it's a no-no or not, but it would never work for us. Andrew gets the sads when his bottle is empty and would get pissed if he went to take a sip and nothing came out.
My MIL is STILL trying to get us to leave cheerios in his crib. She said she did that with her two kids so they could have their own breakfast in the morning and she could sleep in. She's been pushing that since four months. Ummm, no thanks.

It is a no no due to their teeth - when babies fall asleep on the bottle it lets the milk in their mouth and causes rot/cavities for the teeth. WE do give DS2 a bottle at bedtime, but in his rocking chair, then we do a book, a song, and in the crib.

No. I've read, and our pedi has also told us, no bottles in the bed. I nurse him and then we read a story and say goodnight to the animals in his room.

That is horrible!
What you need to do is leave a toaster in his crib and a pack of Pop Tarts. Now THAT'S a breakfast.

tooth decay, choking on bottle parts if baby pulls the nipple off, and ear infections from drinking while flat are reasons to not give baby a bottle in the crib.
Isn't laying completely flat and drinking bad for the ears too? But ditto what PP said about teeth rotting.
How can that be though? I mean, what about side lying nursing? we do that all the time.
If your baby isn't prone to ear infections then side laying isn't a problem - if they were getting lots of ear infections, I would choose a more upright position.
Tommy gets ear infections (on #3) so I only side lay so the "good" ear is down and the bad ear is up. Otherwise we nurse in a somewhat propped up cross cradle position.

Also I still nurse her to sleep. No plan to stop any time soon as I have not seen anything that says it is bad for them?
Breast is different because unlike a bottle the millk won't come out unless there is some suckling whereas a bottle could continue to pool in their mouth. Breastmilk on the teeth is not the same as formula or WCM in terms of the sugars. There are some articles on Kellymom about it. H nursed to sleep until weaning and I took her to the dentist before she was 2 just to be sure her teeth were ok. All has been good.

Wait what? Op are you asking if its ok to do a bottle before bedtime or a bottle in the crib? Softskate are you thinking she means giving a baby a bottle in its crib then walking away? I thought she meant is it ok to feed a bottle then put baby down to bed?
If that's what you mean, we do it. He sleeps 14 hours at night I don't see how he will go that long if he hasn't had a bottle since like 4 or whatever. It's not going to rot his teeth to eat a bottle before bed. Unless you are brushing their teeth after every bottle during the day then what's the difference?
Like leave the bottle in the mouth while he's sleeping in the crib? We don't do that, but he tends to feed before naps and he feeds before he goes down for the night. I rub his teeth with a warm washcloth.
He won't let me come near him with a spoon or his vitamin dropper so I'm assuming a toothbrush is out of the question at this point.
