Looking like a douche? I know a lot of you here pull it off-my H's aunt gave me a gorgeous scarf for Christmas and I would like to wear it and not look like an idiot.
Do you have tips on how to wrap it? Any pics? I googled tutorials on google and it laughed at me.

I love scarves and wear them all the time. I don't know if I look like a douche or not, though.
I don't like the "oprah" scarf method - where you fold it in half and then pull it through the loop. No thanks, too preppy for me. I like mine kind of messy. I do this thing where I put it around my neck, grasp one end, spin the other end all around my neck, then pull that end through the loop it creates. That's probably a horrible description. Basically, I just play around with them until I like them.

Ugh, my sister wears "indoor scarves" all the time, but I just can't. I look like such a dick. It's too typical-art-historian. Next I'd need a brooch and a chain for my glasses.
oh, and i wear scarves a ton. i don't care if i look like a douche or not. so, i might not be able to give you non-douche advice. i just want to be warm and enjoy the color and pattern of scarves.

I've never heard of it called the Oprah way, haha, but that's how I tie my scarves.
five feet? dang, yo. that's a big scarf. i think you could do the fold it into a triangle shawl thing if you wanted, but if it's filmy enough, you can do scarf things with it.
the best website with options for how to tie square filmy/silky scarves is hermes. no lie. here's a link for a bunch of them. i wouldn't try the snips dorag any time soon, but i bet the "maxi cheche" and "cravate flude" would be good options to start with and would really show off the scarf.
i do the #3 all the time too. what's nice about it is that you can wear it looser if you have a larger scarf and really fluff it up, or bind the scarf into a really tight tube before you tie it so that it's a bit smaller/tighter. and it never comes out/undone.

I've never heard this either, but it's also how I tie my scarves. Sometimes I do this and put one of the ends underneath the loop to make it look more layered. It's kind of a fun spin.

Ha ha, sorry for the Oprah confusion, that's just what I refer to it as because one of the rare times I watched Oprah, she was learning how to tie it that way and she kept making OH MY GOD faces and it was just hilarious. I cannot call it anything else now.
Officially, in that video, it was called the European method.
I used to think everyone who wore scarves did it so well and that I couldn't, then I just decided to buy scarves and wear them anyways and I used that video to help me. I have about 20 scarves maybe. I love them.
My favourite way to wear them is to attach both ends and then wear it as an infinity loop but that doesn't work as well with a square. I only have a few square ones (even though I love them) and I tend to make them into triangles and wear them like this:
I don't wear them a lot, but when I do I wear them with a blazer and have it just sort of poofing up out of there. I know, you're probably thinking, "Summer's Eve or Massengil?"
