This might be a Heath. It's the mom who allowed her son to think he'd purchased a $50k car on ebay, and told him they'd have to sell everything to pay for it.
She claims they laugh with and at each other in the house, which is questionable, but my issue is that she posted it on YouTube. Sharing it on FB with friends only is one thing, but posting it on YouTube just to get laughs and attention (including an appearance on the today show 8-D ) is pretty disgusting. This is going to be online for the rest of the kid's life, and I don't think the mom really considered the consequences.
DH said he thinks it's fake. The mom & the son faked the whole thing for their 15 minutes.
I don't think it's fake. I think that little boy was really crying and I think the mother was cruel for doing it and I can't even say what I think about her for posting it on YT.
I get teasing/joking with your kids but FFS, when it gets to the point where they are crying, it's just not funny anymore. It's mean.
I didn't watch the video, but I feel bad for that kid. I know how ashamed DS feels when he truly makes a mistake and, even if it is something little that might seem funny to me, he has gotten really embarrassed if I share the story with H or my mom or something. He's very sensitive and he would be mortified if I put something like that out there for the world to see.

Good points. I was REALLY sensitive as a child. If my mom had done something like this, I probably wouldn't have forgiven her for years. DD seems to be pretty sensitive as well.
we joke around a lot with our kids. I think I might have laughed at this had I not just finished reading about the falling dresser. I feel sensitive right now.

Exactly.
I agree with you that it's not fake. I don't think he could have cried that convincingly.
Also, DH's first thought was why the kid was online without supervision in the first place. The mom should have also been logged out of eBay.
I agree with both points. Our news station interviewed both of them and they are the type of family that jokes around a lot. After he found out it wasn't true, he laughed it off. I think you have to know your kid. So I wasn't bothered by it.
But in general, I wouldn't take it to the point your child is crying.
Also, log out of your accounts before giving something to your kid.
