I like those too. I never minded YHL FWIW. They're a bit ridiculous, cheap and overkill a lot, but they do appear genuine, doing the best they can and I give them points for that.

They did make vinyl decals that you can stick to existing lamp bases. Nothing that tickles my fancy in that department but it's an interesting concept!

Yeah, the only issue is I have no table lamps to stick them to, haha!

I'm in the minority here--I am not a fan. The orb light is a knock-off of many done better (e.g. Restoration Hardware). They needed to use that light in their house because it is part of their line--they need to sell the line, and I get that. But that orb light DOES NOT work in that horrible dining room. It is too light weight for that space. Yet again, J&S show they can't master scale.
And if you look at all the lights they have installed in that house, I think most show poor taste. How many pendants do they have in just the kitchen and dining room alone? It hurts my eyes. Their use of exposed bulbs also hurts my eyes.
And I found myself reading that "we love you readers! thank you!" note at the end of the post as rather manipulative (IMO). As they get further and further away from being regular folks to amassing a business industry (which is good for them, though I still don't think they have taste), they append this statement in order to keep their readers close. I personally think it is manipulative--we love you, so keep reading and go buy our lights!
As I have said many times before, before they are excellent at PR. But that doesn't make up for their lack of design skills. The blog has been killing me lately in the lack of any sort of good content.
I really like most of the lights--- however I don't like how they plan to use them.
The one they want for in their living room is just another "splash" of jarring yellow in that space (although it could be cute in a playroom or sunroom)
And the one that they are showing in their dining room is ridiculous in that space. The metal work is way too light and it doesn't ground the room AT ALL. Plus one light bulb to light a whole room? Holy awkward dark spots in your room. I have 5 light bulbs in my dining room and it isn't even very bright.
I think that the lights they are choosing are often nice in vignettes but as a whole they have to make their house really weird and choppy.
That is definitely cool and perfect for a little one. But it is cool because it doesn't really involve any actual design.
I can't get over the fact she is wearing that damn black Target blazer in the promo photo. Does she just not have any other clothing?
Yes, and they didn't come up with the idea.
The blazer does bother me. J&S are not really environmentally friendly anymore (hello, did you see how many fucking pillows they have in the playroom) and it doesn't fit her properly. If it were cut appropriately for her, I would probably get over it.
I saw the wire globe one in their Christmas entertaining post and wondered where they had gotten it from. I like it, but I hate seeing bare bulbs. I think this is a good direction for them. I always liked their mood boards and I miss them, and maybe they can make some better designs when they have more time to think about them (like designing a lamp as opposed to painting a duck).
I still can't stand their kitchen but the rest of their house has grown on me now that I go back and look at the most recent pics after all their tweaking. the lamps aren't my style but I think a lot of people will like them.

They're OK. Not really my style, but not ugly or anything.
Wouldn't a true YHL fan rig up a printed shade by buying a blank one and stenciling it herself, though? Or use some wallpaper or other re-purposed item?
Someone should start a blog showing how to DIY YHL items.
Why are they saying that they bought two of the shades? Wouldn't they get these for free, considering they designed them and are being paid to do so? I think it would be dumb not to get two of their designs for free.
Also, I feel like their designs are something they would do a blog post about DIYing. It seems odd to be mass-producing something they would tell you to how to make for $15.
I think the sightline of the new one in their dining room, which is right next to that ugly DIY basket one in their kitchen is overkill, even if you like each individual light. Clearly, that is my own opinion though.

I actually thought it was bad form to have shadows on the ceiling from your light cover, and they have that going on in more than one room. I wouldn't like to look at that daily, for sure.
