I have my annual on Sunday morning, and I'm going to see if they're willing to do any preliminary testing at this point. To the ladies that have done this - what should I expect? Bloodwork? SA for H? Anything I should be wary of? If she doesn't run any tests and hands me Clomid, I should totally take it, right?
FTR, my cycles are regular and I appear to be ovulating. We've had perfect timing for 8 months with no luck and were NTNP for 3 months before that.
The general rule is to start with blood work and a SA for your H. The blood work will take place on very specific days of your next cycle.
My OB/GYN also put in the orders for my HSG right then too, but we didn't schedule it until CD1.
If you're not temping and charting, start now. Depending on the results you get with your OB/GYN, you may be referred on to a RE and this is when having your charts all ready to go will be helpful.
And thanks for the link Swizz! I'm reading through it now.

She will ask you a lot of questions, about your cycles, health, etc. Bloodwork will probably be ordered, and a SA for your H. After bloodwork results you can go in any number of directions, so its hard to say. I'd just be wary if she seems to be moving fast and making assumptions. Do you chart or keep track of your cycles? Bring that info in case she finds it helpful.
Eta: sorry, posted before I noticed Lola wrote essentially the same thing, only better, lol!
Thanks, everyone! I'm feeling really anxious, but I'm sure that's normal. And Swizz - super informative thread, thanks for the link. It makes me feel better about seeing someone, even though we're only on cycle 9.

Yeah, we tried for about 9 months, but I had a lot of endo pain so that made me go in before the 1 year "rule". Glad I did! Even though I have a frustrating diagnosis, its good to know what were dealing w instead of getting my hopes up every month.

It made me feel better too, only on #6.
The gist I got was that it was fine to go in sooner, since we're much more knowledgeable about our cycles and what's going on than the average couple.
My plan is to wait it out until about cycle #9 and then just call the RE. I don't need a referral with my insurance, and my OB/midwife doesn't seem to accept any of my concern.
That's frustrating. What did your OB/midwife tell you? My insurance needs a referral, so I figured I would start with the OB now and move to the RE after 12 months - unless there's a reason to move over sooner, I guess.
I'm thinking 9 cycles is when I'll bring it up with my PCP too. Like someone mentioned, since you are more aware of timing, I would think they would listen and at least do the blood work and SA. And whatever the result, at least you will have more information about how everything is working and adjust your game plan if needed. Good luck!
Most of the girls on MMMs said their OBs told them 6-9 months of well-time sex over the age of 30. I'm only 28, and only about 4-5 of our cycles were well-timed, so I'm going with the bigger end of the range, and just hoping for a BFP before that, lol.
Yeah, I'm 28 and had 4 perfectly-timed cycles with a few duds thrown in there. I unfortunately am not due for my PCP or OB annuals until the end of the year... I haven't gotten to the point of making an appointment just to discuss this yet, but I've been thinking about it a bit over the last week or so.

I told her I'd had 6ish cycles with only a couple that weren't optimum (but not like, we didn't have sex at all, just that we had it at like O-2 and like O+1) but that I appeared to be ovulating per my temps and OPKs, and she was all, "oh great! Well just keep trying!"
I realize I'm not at a place for concern, but I felt like she could have at least said, well give it a few more months and then come back in. Just something, ya know?
Absolutely. I remember asking my OB back in March how long I should TTC before coming in - she basically told me not to worry, and that it would happen. I'm afraid she might have the same attitude on Sunday, but I hope not. Sunday is her last day before maternity leave, so I'm thinking she'll probably refer me to another doctor in the practice. We'll see, I guess.
My first time in she did an internal ultrasound to make sure everything looked okay physically with a follow up ultrasound a week later which confirmed my ovulating (besides the charts I'd handed her, which also confirmed a normal pattern). She then referred me to another ob/gyn specialized in genetics and maternal health who did some testing on actual safety of pregnancy for me. Since all was okay with me on the uterus/ovarian side of things, and my kidneys are the only concern they told me to try a few months more and want me to come in in March for further blood testing/SA if I'm still not pregnant then. I'll make my appointment as soon as the next 2WW is over actually. (They usually are super swamped so I rather make that appointment sooner than later. Can always cancel :-)
I talked to the doc at 8 month. I had only been charting for maybe 4 months, but I had a 75 day cycle and noticed that my LP was on the shorter side. They began testing right away. Blood work, HSG, and SA are the standard. My first doc misread H's SA and wanted to start me on clomid right away. He was offended by my questions on monitoring and said it wasn't necessary because monitoring doesn't help you get pregnant. I never went back!
