I was just thinking of something, when we were in Ireland at my sisters house her kids had gotten this pirate toy with swords. My MIL kept going on about how dangerous it was and if Matilda got her hands on one of the swords she flipped out and told me to get it from her.. to which I was like.. :-| ummm I think she'll be ok.
But she was being so nuts about it which I thought was weird? would you freak out of your LO had one or more of these swords? MIL said she could fall over and stab herself with it. She told a story of someone she knew who sent their kid upstairs to fetch a butchers knife and the kid fell down the stairs and stabbed herself with the knife. A horrible story, but surely irrelevant?
This is the toy. The swords are probably two inches long.
Would you worry about this? Just curious if I don't worry "enough".. MIL thought so. She made comments about how "some people" aren't that worried about dangerous stuff and their kids.
:/ maybe I'm naive but I fail to see how that could inflict a puncture wound. I guess maybe I'd be concerned about poking the eyes, but I feel like lost of toys could do that.
Yes I was thinking, choking would be a bigger risk! However now that I've learned the windpipe is the size of a pea, probably that would be impossible.
She was also playing with this windmill toy which I felt was much more likely to inflict injury as there were sharp bits poking out everywhere, yet she had no issue with that? So I hover about when she's by the windmill but when I leave her crawl about with a sword I am a terrible mother..

She also REALLY freaked out when M got a plastic safety scissors. OK so yes, I wouldn't give her one on purpose and I did take it away, but I wouldn't freak out that much. I mean, the reaction was as though she had gotten into a basket of razor blades.
Yes it is, it was for a 4 year old, my nephew. The thing is I was watching her and she was crawling around with it in her hand not in her mouth, so there was no choking risk. The perceived risk was that she would somehow fall onto it and stab herself.

Ugh, our house is full of all kinds of these things. Due to DS1. I don't know what to do, put it all away? It's impossible. Nearly everything can be a "putting in mouth and then falling on it" hazard. I guess I just sit there in the room with them.
