Dd has had a nasty rash for a while now. I've tried everything. It started in a single raised patch about the size of a quarter and then spread. It's rough and flakey with a few scattered rough bumps. I know it itches like crazy and we can't leave dd diaperless because she scratches it and causes more damage. She also has a light rash that comes and goes on her torso and what I'm pretty is eczema on the back of her arms. She has definitely always had very sensitive skin.
We did a Lotramin and desitin combo for a few days in case it was a yeast rash. No change. Now I'm back to cloth and angel baby. We used more disposables over the holiday and used Huggies for the first time. I've since gotten rid of those. I also used Tide on clothes and diapers for about a month, so I've rewashed everything in free and clear.
I tried to get a drs appt today, but they're totally booked. So, if you made it this far, anything I haven't tried? If something is working, how soon should I see results? Poor kid. She seems happy and fine, but her bum is raw.
Have you tried just petrolium jelly? Our pedi said sometimes the creams can irritate the skin even more so he recommends just lathering up with petrolium jelly (obviously you will need to use disposibles for this).
The oddest part is that nothing is healing down there. There are obvious scratches from her nails and they've been there for days. Probably because I keep putting crap on them.
I would try vaseline or aquaphor - it sounds like maybe it's eczema and not true diaper rash. Can you put a one piece outfit on her without a diaper? Then she can't itch, but still gets more air than a diaper?

good idea. My initial thought was eczema, but I read that it usually doesn't affect the diaper area. I'm sure there are always exceptions though.
That seems weird that you can't get it on your bum. I mean you can get it anywhere else, why wouldn't you be able to get it on your bum? And if it's a food thing and then you expel the food and it sits there on the bum, I think it would totally happen. But obviously I'm not a doctor

Last month my youngest son had the worst diaper I have ever seen in diapering for six years. He had a GI bug and it did a number of his bottom. We did a combo of aquaphor, the anti-fungal cream, and hydrocortisone. Just mixed it all together. Also, if she has eczema, aquaphor is great for that also.

This is what ours told us, too. Plus warm (not hot) baths with baking soda for 20 minutes, air dry for as long as possible, then apply a thick layer of petroleum jelly.

I was about to suggest the baking soda bath too. A nurse recommended this to us and I felt it really helped. I just threw a handful of baking soda into the tub and let him play then dried him well. They also suggested a paste of cornstarch and petroleum jelly.

DD got a diaper rash not too long ago that was awful -- the skin got so irritated that the top layers basically sloughed off, so her bottom was this red, oozy mess. Desitin and the normal creams didn't do anything for it. Someone recommended using lanolin instead, and it was GREAT. Her bottom started healing up very quickly. We use lanolin now whenever DD's rashes start to look fierce.
The downside is that lanolin is $ -- we are still working off a tube I had leftover from breastfeeding.
Have you tried Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm? It has cleared every diaper rash M has ever had.
3 days and counting, nothing...
I'm all for the hippy shit, but I've found to go full strength when a rash appears. I also stripped my CDs. That and a combo of a day of covers and disposable inserts with full strength diaper rash cream cleared it up.

Oh, I think I have some left over somewhere. Ill put that on until I can get to target this afternoon.

Well crap. My guess is yeast.
I would imagine you'll get an rx for Nystatin when you do see the pedi. M had yeast once, we used the Nystatin 4x per day & bottom balm at all other changes. Before that we had tried Lotramin & it didn't help at all.
About her age, DS started having MAJOR diaper rash problems. I started using disposable wipes and changed my cloth diaper wash routine and they cleared up.
We also switched to disposable diapers over night.

This.
We just tried to clear up a patch of fungus on dd's face with lotramin and it didn't do anything. The nyastin cleared it in 3 days. We put the nyastin on, let it absorb for a couple minutes and cover with Vaseline.

I know you said yountried Lotrimin, but did you try Dr. Newman's All Purpose Nipple Ointment? I discovered it in the early days of nursing, and found out later it's the best diaper rash cream. I always made my own (no compounding pharmacy anywhere near me).
Mix equal parts:
Lotrimin AF (make sure it's the AF -- clotrimazole should be the active ingredient; generic is fine -- it's pricey) Neosporin (or a generic triple antibiotic cream) Hydrocortisone cream
Make up a bunch of it in a small tupperware container and slather it on her bum -- I always read to put it on as thick as frosting on a cake.
And make sure her bum is bone dry before you put it on -- wave the diaper over it to dry it.
Is she screaming when you wipe her? I have a few suggestions for baby wipes. The best is to make your own from Viva paper towels -- soak a few in a mixture of baby soap and baby oil with some boiled water. Don't make too much at once because it can get moldy. If you don't do that, buy the Preparation H witch hazel wipes (the kind for hemmeroids) -- they aren't the round tucks kind, but they're the size of small baby wipes.
I'd also try to give her as much diaper free time as possible -- can you let her finger paint or something to occupy her hands while she sits there with a naked bum? Hold her hands in yours and let her watch TV? Even a few minutes diaper free will help her air out before you put the cream and a diaper on her.
Do you cloth diaper? Could the yeast be in them and not coming out in the wash? I think vinegar can help. I'd probably use a free and natural disposable just until she's better.
