I like it. Although it's almost impossible to transition out of. I still call all my mom's friends Miss Laura etc. I wonder how they feel about that now. One of them just emailed me today and signed it "Love, Mrs. Sue"
I say Ma'am and Sir a lot but growing up in the south it was beat into my head. Anytime we went somewhere, my mom would always say remember to say Yes Ma'am, No Ma'am, Yes Sir, No Sir, Please and Thank you. I call people who are younger than me ma'am if I don't know them personally.
I freakin hate it. I had a dr that I worked with that would call me miss alzi. To our patients. Finally I said to him that he could either call me alzi or dr alzi.
But he said it in a belittling tone, not out of respect.
Adding my own confession: I'm going to kind of miss that when we move. I sort of like the formality. I also make Natalie address people in authority that way. Her friends' parents, our lawn guy, our babysitter, anyone older than her basically.
And Ginger, I also introduce myself to her friends that way.

We have DS1 call his pre-school/daycare teachers Miss Firstname, and the kids is our neighborhood call me Miss Firstname and DH Mr. Firstname and we have DS do the same to the adults. We are in Upstate NY, nary a Southerner in the hood. We like it because it sounds more respectful and it's cute.
My H does a ton of work in Nashville and Atlanta. It weirds him out to no end the way he is addressed there. (like, as a white dude i know youre not making this a race thong but itkumquat something we don't really experience). We come from the most casual place ever, there's no sir or ma'am or any of that.
