I'm sorry my post about Robb Wolf/Crossfit came at a bad time for you! I love CrossFit. It's one of those things were a few people/gyms make a bad name for the whole group. There are definitely things CFHQ can/should improve to make CF as great as it can be... but it's still really awesome. Don't be nervous, it will be great. One thing that is true about CF - it's such an amazing community! Like someone in the other thread said, just use your own discretion. And, if possible, check out some other CF gyms around you to get a better idea of what there is out there.
When is your first class? Did the trainer say if the do some sort of "on ramp" class (most do)?

I just joined CF too and believe me I did my homework on what box to join. I tried 3 different ones before picking mine. I asked friends questions, checked out the websites. I know it might be overboard but if I'm paying $$$ a month I want to make sure I will enjoy it and not get hurt. I'm so glad I did too. I'm very impressed with my on ramp program and that my coach is not trying to kill me but has really focused on my form. I think that's how it should be. Don't be scared. Good Luck!!
We start on Friday (the day that they open). I think I am mostly nervous about just trying something new. We are in good shape and I really do think that I am knowledgable enough about fitness and weights to know how hard and far to push myself and whether something doesn't feel right.
We just heard back from the owner that they will demonstrate prior to starting each session the moves and for us newbies we will work sans weighs until they have approved our form. They also said that there will always be a trainer there to assist and watch and monitor us. They will also show us how to use the assistance bands and will go over scaling or modifying the workouts when we get in there.
I don't know that we will be able to get into the other Boxes. Well we could but they are too far away for us to join and to commit to going to regularly. It sounds like all of the CF in our area (metro and suburbs there are 4 including this one) are all really friendly and all came from the same original box here. So I would think that they are all pretty similar. I do have a friend that is a CF trainer, maybe I can see what he thinks of these guys.
All in all, I am pretty positive that I am going to love it. It is right up my alley and I am really hoping that we can meet a good set of people with similar fitness goals to keep challenging us!
