I want to repaint my kitchen. It's bright yellow, and while I love the room on its own, I do not love it with the rest of my house. Sigh.
Here's my family room:
The color is "Barely Jade" and I think it's pretty neutral. Sometimes blue, sometimes more green, sometimes more gray. Overall, pretty warm. I want to carry that color into the kitchen.
I have glass front cabinets full of Fiestaware in various colors. I need a fabric for curtain panels that will work with the paint color and with the dishes. My cabinets are white, counters and hardware black, and the floor is gray tile.
I think that pattern and colors may be a bit bold juxtaposed against the stark kitchen finishes you're describing -- especially if it's opposite such a sedate and chic family room. It seems liekt aht fabric would better suit the bright yellow kitchen. I woudl think something more traditional and "martha stewart" would work better like subtle vertical stripes.
The curtains would replace those. This portion is not visible from the family room. You only really see the curtains if you are in the kitchen.
It's not an open concept, but it is connected to the family room by a small hall, so the wall color is pretty much the only thing I am concerned about meshing well.
I like your current curtains better than this fabric. Sorry. For some reason I keep thinking of Vera Bradley gone wrong in that print. How about something a little less busy?
I'm in love with that fabric, and I ordinarily don't live those bold colors. It's super fun and bright. I love it for curtains, but maybe not the full panel. Can you do a solid panel, and use the fabric to accent ( I think I've seen some with a panel of print at the bottom)
I prefer it to your current curtains, but I would probably go with something else since they both look similar to me (as far as how colorful and busy they are)
Just want to clarify - I really like the fabric, especially the jewel tones. I just don't think it goes well opposite the family room. But I hear the OPs, I think a lot of design has gone too gray/taupe and safe.

I like it. But...I tend to like slightly jazzy patterns. I feel like fabric is an area where you can take risks without doing too much "damage." If you don't like it after awhile, you can always switch it out.

If they're adjacent, she could bring the pattern and colors into the family room by covering those pastel print pillows on the sofa in the same fabric or colors taken from the Fiestaware.
FWIW, the tan sofa and grey walls together would bother me more than the print, but I know it's an irrational pet peeve of mine. DH has a shirt the color of the walls that he used to pair with cords the color of the sofa until he got sick of me sending him upstairs to try again.
