We re-did our kitchen this summer and I haven't tackled any sort of design elements yet. The only "construction" left to do is install the backsplash. But I want to add something on that big blank wall and over the desk. Thoughts? (Also, please excuse the mess!)
Above the desk a message board or cubby & shelf system would be nice. And I'm going to say no on that greenish mosaic tile. It is the wrong undertone for your paint (which appears to be a blue or lavender tone) and the pretty marble on your island. Go to Maria Killam's blog Color Me Happy for some color choosing advice. I'm not a fan of busy tile backsplashes, and I know on this board I'm in the minority. They will be dated very quickly, IMHO, and they just have too much going on.
All of this. It's a great kitchen, but that backsplash would take away from it. I'd go with subway tile in white or marble that matched the island.
On the large blank wall i'd do art or a couple of shelves with a few potted herbs.
Do you have the backsplash tile already or is that a sample you have? I think the color is just fine- I'm not seeing any purple undertones in your paint on my screen at all. I think it matches fine. I do agree that it's a little busy, especially with the large veiny slab you have on the island- that's kind of the beautiful star of the show here. Regardless, your kitchen is very pretty- make sure to AW it when you're done!

Thanks everyone! The backsplash isn't green at all - just a bad iPhone photo. The subway tile is something to consider too. I'll keep you all posted
Late to the party here, ditto OPs about a message board. Here's a fun and cheap DIY project - cover a cork board with a complementary fabric (maybe cover the stool too?). As you start using the space, you'll get an idea of what you need. It looks like you have plenty of storage. But if you find yourself needing more, I think you could do a shallow bookshelf for cookbooks and other odds & ends on that blank wall.
