I only have baskets in our bathroom and I just throw stuff in the right one. Every once in a while I pulled them out and take out junk, but in a basket of "medical" there isn't a great way to keep it tidy.
I use baskets everywhere - my closet, my toiletries, the laundry room, the pantry, the coat closet. Stuff is always thrown in, never stacked neatly. BUT it's always sorted extensively. Like the coat closet has a basket for his winter accessories, her winter accessories, and dog leashes/sweaters, etc.
A quick mental run through...I have something like 38 baskets. Yeah, it definitely costs a pretty penny to get started.
We're kind of a combination of both. Some (most) things are just tossed into baskets to give the look of tidiness. Others are organized within the basket.
I guess you could say I'm organized all the way through. In other words, I organize things that you can't see, not just the things you can see. So yes, if I put items in a basket or bin, I try to do it in an organized manner so that I can find what I need instead of having to rummage through. But I do keep like items together so that makes it easier to organize and also to find what I'm looking for if it isn't all that organized. I'm kind of a nut about organization. It's kind of my hobby and I'm actually pretty good at it and enjoy it.
FWIW, check your local Goodwill stores for baskets. A lot of the baskets I use in my home I have found at Goodwill stores. So it doesn't necessarily have to cost a lot.
Depends. My bathroom ones are super organized. Rubes' toy bins I just throw stuff in. The hat glove etc. baskets are catergorized to a T but I just throw stuff in. My pantry ones are also super organized except for the one with Child dishes and cups. My cleaning supplies ones I just toss stuff into too.
I use the baskets so that I don't have to be neat, so things are just tossed in. I have to dig through them when I want something I don't use often (i.e. it's not on top). All of my baskets are on shelves, behind glass, etc. though, so the junk isn't visible from the top. If they were, I'd probably be a bit neater about it.
Honestly, I am more of a toss it in and rummage kind of person, and it doesn't bother me to have to rummage if I am at least looking in the right place.
It really depends on the basket and the room, whether or not stuff is organized or thrown in. I gravitate toward lidded baskets if they are visible, and open for things that I can't mess up too badly (dish towels) or things that are used inside a drawer, cabinet or closet. I pick up baskets at thrift stores and yard sales for things that I don't need matching baskets, and shop sales at Target and Michaels for multiples, but I use dollar store bins to organize inside the baskets or drawers if I need more organization help there.
My sewing and craft items are in labeled boxes, all organized by type of item, and sometimes by color. I kind of enjoy looking through a box of trim of the color needed, finding just the right one, and I like not seeing all of the clutter....my brain is cluttered enough without adding more to it. ;p
