We are using the Roku now instead of cable/dish. So far I love it. My only complaint is I'd REALLLLLY just like to watch the evening news live. Other than that, I'm enjoying it immensely.
Besides Hulu, Netflix, amazon... What channels should I get? I have TuneIn so I can get NPR.
We live 45 minutes from one, 2 hours from the either. DH got an outdoor one and pointed it vaguely where the satellite pointed on the house. However, we also live on a state highway and traffic can mess with the signal.
We got a Roku last month and really like it so far. We don't have cable, so Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, and the other channels make up for that. It's especially convenient to not have to run a cable from our laptop to the tv every time we want to watch something.
Glad you like it so far. What kind of antenna are you using? We live pretty far from a major city and we still get all the network channels. I'm set with Netflix!
Is anyone willing to explain it to me? The costs involved mostly. We gave up cable and I have a desktop. So sometimes we watch things online, but it would be really nice to be able to watch it on our tv. We don't have Netflix or Amazon Prime right now.

We got our Roku on Amazon for $40. I think the cost can range anywhere from $40-$80. Then, you can choose to have a monthly subscription to Hulu, Netflix, etc. (Both of those are $8/mo.) If you have Prime, you can stream from Amazon, too.
There are several channels on Roku. Some are free or a low monthly subscription. Some (like the sports channels) are more expensive. But, all in all, it's definitely less than what we were paying for cable.

Thank you! Right now we're enjoying not paying any subscriptions, but I think I like the idea of Roku if that changes.
The roku is the convenient way to stream to your tv if you don't have an Internet ready tv. If you plug your pc into the tv to access Netflix you don't have a remote. The roku acts as the pc would so you can stream to the tv and you gave a remote to use. You can use it for your Netflix, Hulu, amazon etc accounts and access them all at once. It's very convenient to have, and it's only a one time fee of up to $80ish dollars per tv, vs a cable box. Hope that helps!
