Yes. Because my pension is not going to be there when I'm allowed to retire. And since I don't pay into social security, I'll be totally fucked
Don't worry, there won't be Social Security by then either
I say PHOOEY to "no Social Security by ....". I heard that when I was a kid in the 60's, and it's still around. I should be getting around $1,600 in Social Security after 65.
Anyway, if I retire after 1/1/14 I'll get $4,600 monthly for the rest of my life. $5,600 if I wait until 1/1/16. And about $6,672 if I wait until 58. ;D
I was going to retire before I move to Oregon in Spring 2014, but now I think I'll try to tough it out on a "normal" salary until January 2016.

You earned it sister. I'd hang on to get maybe that first increase in pay, perhaps the second; but not so long that they could somehow eff with the contract and reduce the benefits before you retire.
Do you get social security on top of this? Man!
Multiple-employer contributions are way more protected than single employer. I'm in solid with this pension. I've been a member for 27 years now, plus working as a rep has increased my contributions.
And yes, I'll get SS on top of this--if the good Lord wills that I live that long. : )

And that's why I really want to tough it out until 2016. That extra $1K is so tempting. And if I can hang in there until 2018, that'll be even better. We'll see. : )
