I did not even look at the brands. Just looked at the hideous bathroom. She takes a lot of pictures of herself.
Assuming the (lack of) quality without looking at the brands is pretty stupid.
And even if it was all crap, what does it matter? Some people prefer having a variety of on trend clothes to choose from rather than wearing the same three high quality shirts for years. To each his own.
Although the post that made me LOL the most was the "I'd rather have my money in my 401(k)." Because, you know, anyone with lots of clothes must not be maxing out their retirement contributions.
I like the idea - we have a spare bedroom that is just holding random stuff right now, and my H said he would be totally ok with turning that into a dream closet for me. I still don't know if I need it, but seeing something like this makes me happy that someone has done it!!
I am so type A that it would need to be organized differently, but still, good for her for going for it!
ETA: If she owns a Chanel, I'm surprised that doesn't have a place of honor. I like all my super-favorite shoes and bags where I can see them every day, because they make me happy.

Yup.
And the vast majority of my non-work clothes are crappy quality. I'm fine with that.

I've thought about doing something like this with one of our spare bedrooms but I don't think I have the wardrobe to justify it. If I had hers, I totally would.
Nice to have a large, organized closet space - however, what is being stored - meh. If you have 200+ dresses, how often do you even wear one of them? This is an example of using material things to fill some other need. I would be interested to know if she gives to charity, has credit card debt, savings or a retirement fund. I have a friend who converted a very small bedroom into her shoe room (all high end shoes that she does wear) with built in shelves and cubbies.

No, this is an example of you being a jealous, judgmental, petty bitch.
Not that anyone expects anything different from you.

Some of the comments here are horrible. I would love to be able to do this. I love clothes but don't have the body, the job, or the money to get what I really want. I bet her and her husband have more in retirement then most people. Just because she has a lot of costly items doesn't mean that she's screwing other areas, it just means that they can afford them.
For all we know she has shit tons of money in the bank and investments.
And even if she doesn't.... WHO CARES? WHY DOES ANYONE CARE? What difference does it make to any person on this board??? Is everyone so jealous that they need to make up a terrible backstory for this poor poster so that they can feel smug and self-justified in their small wardrobes??

This is funny. How can you even SEE what is being stored? It's just a closet picture, and not a zoom in.
Do you know whether your friend (with ONLY the high end shoes) has cc debt, gives to charity, and has a huge hole in her soul that she fills with shoes?

:Y:
Between this and the Married Life threads attacking a girl's engagement ring (they presumed it was fake, and many said it was ugly, I think just because of the large price tag), GBCN is doing a good job this weekend of making me feel more confident about my point in the jealousy thread that there are a lot of people who are unnecessarily catty to people they're jealous of. There certainly are a lot of them here.
So, I had no idea this thread existed until someone pointed it out to me! I debated on whether or not to respond, but there were a couple questions/comments that I did want to address.
Not to criticize this poster, but I will say mine is a bit more neatly arranged. This one looks kind of disorganized with the stuff smashed on the hanging racks in no particular order, and what looks like haphazard stacks of shoe boxes piled way too high on sagging shelves. That wouldn't feel relaxing to me; it would feel jumbled. But this is her first pass; she can always go back through and upgrade to better quality fixtures and better organization.
Yes, my shoe shelves need replacing bad. If you look at the initial photo, I've basically doubled my shoe collection since then. I clearly did not plan for expansion! But, I'm looking for a better solution to this. I just haven't seen anything that's jumped out at me yet.
Everything in the room is organized by type and color. Even my shoes, and the photos on the boxes help me with this. You got it right though that I am totally a stripe and pattern whore, so it doesn't photograph as color coordinated as all solid color clothing would look.
Do you know why all of her photos are taken in a gym?
Someone else answered this for me, but yes- it's bc of the lighting. That's another thing about my room I would change is better lighting. It was trashy to use the gym but I liked participating in the OOTD threads and it offered the best lighting to actually see my outfits. I did finally buy a tripod for my phone so I can take pictures in the kitchen/living room now.
Quality and taste is more important than quantity - judging from the photos. Do people really have nail polish shelves on display?
I bought the display bc I had all my polishes in shoe box sized boxes and I hated having to pull everything out to pick a color. (First world problem, I know) I wanted to be able to see everything all at once and I honestly felt like I had more polishes than that! It's a sad collection, but I do like them being visible.
Love all the shoes though, but I'd take them out of the boxes and line them up neatly. The bathroom is just hideous.
I've thought about not using boxes but then my shoes get all dusty. (Another first world problem.) And until I come up with a better shelving situation, they're easier to stack and store in the boxes for now.

I promise I'm not lying when I say H and I just dropped off 5 bags of my clothes at Goodwill this morning and I donated a full bag of just sweaters alone before Christmas to our office, who is helping with a cold weather clothing drive. I try to actively purge at least twice a year, if not more. A coworker's wife is my shoe size so every few months or so, she will get a ginormous box of my unwanted shoes to shop thru. Anything she doesn't want, she passes to her friends, and then ultimately the rest gets donated. Basically my theory is- if I haven't worn it in a full season cycle, then it needs to go.
I don't have credit card debt, in fact my credit score is at an all time high. Our savings, 401K, and stock options are all very healthy. We don't have kids and do not live beyond our means. -------
I do appreciate everyone's comments. Obviously I put myself out there on the Internet, and I don't expect everyone to have the same tastes as me! I posted this on the Style and Beauty forum and had no idea anyone else would even give it this much attention. Anyway, thanks for having me on your board!

Carylee, I must apologize for posting here. I isn't realize it would take this turn. I would DD but that won't get rid of the replies. Plus, seems most comments are very positive. Thanks for posting here, and keep up your great style!!!
I love your style, your clothes and would just fall over dead if I had your shoe collection. I am making my extra bedroom into a closet room so love seeing pictures of others who have done the same.
