I've done some similar art (phrases painted on wood) and I just use cheap acrylic paint that you can get at any craft store. I sand it down after its painted to look worn though, and then seal it with a matte spray. What do you mean by "rich"?

Is this yours? It's exactly what I want! By "rich" I mean worn, dimensional, like yours. Not stark black and white like a poster.
So, I need some acrylic black craft paint, paint on with a brush, then sand it down afterwards? My board is 6 ft by 3 ft. I used white trim paint for the letter color.
This is the tutorial I'm going to use vs. the first one, but not spray paint.
It's not an original idea, but the technique is mine.
I painted the board white, sanded it down a little to get some of the wood grain back, traced the letters on (I printed them out on paper, cut out each letter, then traced it on the board - time consuming, but free), then painted the letters with a little brush and cheapo acrylic paint ($.99 a bottle?), then sanded it all again and sprayed it with the matte sealant.
I just read through the tutorial you posted, I think I'd use spray paint like she did since you're covering a huge surface. I painted each letter individually which is why I used the acrylic. Just sand it down afterwards.

I honestly don't think I can evenly spray paint such a big board. I am the worst spray painter ever I swear. Whatever I do will be brushed on. It only took me 15 minutes to brush the white on.
