My husband took a full truck load of stuff to the dump the other day. some of it was boxes, but a lot of it was garbage I have cleared out of the house. There were also a couple of bags for the thrift store, and I have 2 more bags of toys and books that I will be donating to our church nursery.
And I still have a lot of spots to do! Our kitchen, the baby's closet, the car, my purse, and DD's closet.
See, I didn't officially sign up b/c I knew a good part of January would be dedicated to de-Christma-tizing the house. I'm planning on taking down exterior lights next weekend. Ask me in February!
Slow, but productive. We did our spare bedroom a while ago, and it's still clean. I did one of our worst kitchen cabinets over the weekend and I was amazed at how much crap I tossed. I had an entire shelf empty and available when I put everything back. I also went through my bathroom basket and tossed all of my old skincare products I don't use anymore. It was a lot. This week I hope to do my closet. That'll be a doozie. And our basement looks so much more open after tossing all the random junk and empty boxes.
I stuffed two bags from my closet this morning to take to Goodwill. In the process I found $19 and my missing ipod. Yay! My H cleared out the shed yesterday, but only threw a few things away because we use to rest of it.
Our big job will be the basement, but we have to wait until IL can take the boys for a day to do that one.

I have 2 lawn bags going to the trash (okay most of it is packing materials) and a good sized box full of stuff to get rid of, plus 3 boxes in the basement of consignment sale stuff, 2 in the garage and a laundry basket that's being filled up upstairs.
Good! I've also been on this kick since after Thanksgiving. I'm glad our bedroom is more organized and prettier now.
Today I need to deep clean our office and go through the clutter. It's presentable but there's so much stuff to make it "useful" (lamps, letter trays etc.) That it isn't really useful at this point. I wanted to organize my decor closet, but I'm apparently ahead of myself. I started opening totes to sort through..and 1/2 of them were empty. I pitched more after all the holidays this past year than I thought.
The E. students room needs a thorough organizing and deep clean (boys are gross) now that we don't have one. I need to think on that one yet though!
I also need to figure out a better way to pack the dishwasher. Stuff isn't coming out too clean lately and it's not the dishwasher. People just shove stuff in it all day long and not in a way it comes clean. I also hate it all left on the counter/sink too. That's on my list today. Figure something out when I repack in a bit.
I haven't really been home yet this year. I'm still on Christmas break and I'm at DH's. I did straighten the house and take down all the Christmas the 2 days we were home after ILs before here.
Confession: I never switched my closet over from summer to winter (global warming kept it swinging from 35 to 75 in November), so it's all just a jumbled mess now of brights next to dark colors next to sundresses. It bothers me. But I won't be home until the 20th I think, so no news from me until after then.
MIL did text yesterday to say that I started a chain reaction! They finished the workshop, so it's done from what I showed you. They then moved on to the garden shed and the storage building where she keeps Christmas stuff. They were both super grateful - I guess they just needed the initial help.
I reorganized a couple of my kitchen cabinets over the w/e. They weren't in bad shape but needed some improving. I've got pictures ready to go for that project. I'm going to find another project or two to report.
I'm an idiot and didn't take proper before pictures - but we made HUGE progress organizing our clothes over the weekend. We moved into our bedroom with it's new closet and everything actually fits in there with tons of room to spare!
Our biggest problem was actually crap like old ratty t-shirts and socks with no mates that have been spilling out of drawers forever. So now my ragbag is full and there is half a kitchen trash bag full of hole-filled socks and underwear.
For now we will ignore the fact that most of my actual clothes are in boxes and I only put my maternity wardrobe in the closet. My regular clothes are boxed by season to be stored in the spare room closet as soon as I paint it (tonight!) and once I pop this kid out I'm going to be ruthless with things that don't fit anymore. I already culled a whole kitchen trash bag full of stuff that I just don't love anymore. So all I have left are the things that I love to wear, but may or may not fit post baby.
Oh! And...and this is HUGE for me - as of tonight I will have no dirty laundry except the stuff we wore today. I have FINALLY caught up on the laundry monster. It just took all damn weekend of the w/d constantly running.
I feel good about our progress. We're really tackling paper clutter which is a huge win. H even took it upon himself to sort through old magazines while he watched the game yesterday.
Awesome! I devoted the entire day yesterday to my bedroom. MH and I tried on every article of clothing in our closets. We packed two contractor bags for good will with stuff that was outdated or didnt' fit.
We installed an awesome new closet organizer in my closet and now I can get rid of my dresser completely.
I felt like I was sleeping in a hotel last night It was a good start to organizing!
So far, so good! I'm tackling my office/craft room/spare bedroom first and have all the spaces cleaned out. I made a pile to donate, a pile of baby stuff to pass on to family (eagerly waiting for my BFF/cousin to get pregnant!), and tossed about 3 garbage bags/recycling of old papers, boxes, etc. I hope to finish the room tomorrow and then start on the master. It's a disaster - like close the door when we have people over in case they wander upstairs and then run out screaming disaster! As I type this I'm looking at a two foot Godzilla toy that DH brought home from his parents' attic and somehow ended up in the corner of my bedroom. :sigh:
