I have one but work gave it to me for free. I might not buy one, because I already have a heart rate monitor and that works better for the type of exercise I do.
If your main form of exercise is walking, it's awesome. The new one syncs directly with an iPhone, which mine doesn't. The battery lasts for days or weeks without a charge, and I wear mine on the front of my bra--it basically disappears.
I like mine because I compete against my coworkers (and now my husband and a few friends). I suck though because I work from home and get most of my exercise on the elliptical, which it doesn't really track very well.
I have a fitbit - I mostly like it. The one big problem I have is that it clips onto your clothing, so it's really easy to lose it. I'm on my second fitbit - my first one I used to clip on the pocket of my jeans, but it fell off and I never found it again. Now, I clip it to my bra, which is great because I never lose it, but it's not convenient to look at during the day since I have to dig down between my boobs, which is generally awkward in public. I would prefer to be able to wear it externally and use it to motivate me more throughout the day. I think they have a new bracelet now, so if I were to replace it again I'd probably get that.
Also, you could look at the Jawbone Up. People I know really love that.
The new one syncs to your phone - so you can see the data before you get home and sync it, without the bra digging!
I don't but want to get one. DH has one and really likes it. He uses it with in conjunction with Myfitnesspal; he lost 30lbs last year using these two tools.

My husband has it and he likes it because he connects to his family and they all monitor themselves that way, and that's a big motivator for him. It does fall off easily though, my MIL has lost one in the toilet.
I had a Jawbone Up last year and liked it. I got it for really cheap because they had bugs with that model, and it eventually died. I liked monitoring my sleep cycles (which you can also do with the fitbit), but other than that, I'm fine with a regular pedometer since I don't do much with my data.
I have one. I do like it so far, but I'm afraid I'm going to lose it. No trouble yet, but I can see how it would be easy to fall off. The clip is pretty strong right now, but I don't imagine it will stay strong forever.
I like it because it helps me actually integrate my activity level with my food. Some days I'm mostly stationary, some days I walk a lot at work - just depends on what's going on that day, today I've walked almost 5000 steps, most work days I am lucky to hit 5000 steps all day (unless I run or otherwise work out).
It is more helpful to me to get an accurate reading of how many calories I can consume. Saying I should eat 1500 calories a day, for example, every single day, is not helpful to me since I'm not doing the same thing every day.
Hard to say if it's helped or not. I got mine in December and with the holidays and tons of parties, my diet wasn't as good as it could have been during that time. I haven't actually lost any weight yet, but I haven't gained any over the holidays either....
I do like the dashboard and the food tracker is mostly easy to use. The only thing I don't like about it is that if I look something up in the food database, the database entry is different than what actually logs. It's hard to explain, but an example is a banana - it says a serving is 100 grams, but then when I click on the food to log it, it defaults to 1 gram. So then I have to remember that it previously said a serving is 100 grams and manually update that in the tracker. It's not a big deal, but I don't know why it doesn't default to whatever serving size you click on.
I also fly with mine constantly--you'd think the EZ porno oven would have a problem with the random electronic device between my boobs, but it never has.
It doesn't sync to an android (at least not Fitbit One, which is what I have).
But, if you have the app on your android phone, once your fitbit syncs with your computer your internet login will sync with your phone. Not that helpful on days I'm gone all day at work, but helpful on weekends and other days when I'm near my computer on a regular basis.
I have a fitbit one and love it. This is my second one. The first one I washed twice and it finally died on me. However, they have wonderful customer service and mailed me a new one for free. I do like that it is super light, but it also makes it very easy to throw into the washer. I also like that it syncs with my phone and with MFP. I would recommend it.
Yes I should say I lost mine once and they sent me a new one. Amazing customer service.
The One is the older model that doesn't sync with iPhone (that's what I have--it's straight up and down). The new one is called Ultra--it's wider at the bottom.

Sorry you;re totally right--Ultra is old (and straight and doesn't sync with phone), One is new (and wider at the bottom and syncs with phone).
Yep, I just got mine a month ago. It doesn't sync with Android, but hopefully will at some point? I think that's dumb since there are so many Android users, but whatever. It's still pretty convenient without it.
I have a Fitbit Zip. It's tiny and it's synced up to my Sparkpeople page and there's the Fitbit website I can get on. It has a watch-type battery that won't need to be changed for quite awhile and it has a tap screen. So far I like it and it has helped with my motivation.
I've got one of the ultras - and love it! I've actually been thinking about getting one of the new versions, because the plastic housing on mine is cracking - which the One's don't have an issue with.
It's lots of fun to be in competition with family/friends to see who can walk the most!
