I finally found out via facebook stalking that it was ruled a massive asthma attack. Apparently it seems like someone was there with her and she did use her inhaler, but it didn't stop it. As someone with asthma and having DS with asthma it terrifies me.
That is terrible, for both her and the person who was with her.
I know. I just can't imagine. I felt awful even lurking on her dad's FB page to begin with- god it was so sad- but I believe the person with her was a long-time friend who was the one to say that she did use it, etc. I couldn't stop thinking about her and her family this past xmas.
Wow! Juliana's asthma isn't acute, and the only fairly acute reaction is to super cold wind, but I cannot imagine living with asthma that severe. My Mom in Law has to carry a rescue inhaler, so this really scares me too.
DH makes me feel so paranoid because of DS. I have to get a pulmonologist referral because his asthma has gotten to the point where he coughs every night when he's playing. If we settle him down soon enough it won't get to the point of needing his inhaler, but he'll start wheezing if I don't- and he's an insane toddler so it's hard. I have asthma and have to use a rescue inhaler, but it's never been to the point of being worried it won't work. It honestly just didn't cross my mind that it would be so bad that it wouldn't work. :/
I really hope he outgrows some of that. Juliana's has gotten loads better and her pedi said that if she'd outgrown most of her symptoms by the time she was 3 that she would likely never need regular inhaler meds. She does that during the winter, the horrible coughing fits and wheezing if she's really active and running and I was told it is was the cold air aggravating it.
I will be interested to see what your pulmonologist says.

Hopefully! DS apparently had asthma but outgrew it (according to his mom, but she's kind of a hypochondriac so who knows). He doesn't remember though. I didn't develop it until later. His just started over the summer and seems to have gradually gotten worse. :/ I'm not sure if it's just my pedi or if it's normal, but she pretty much will be an albuterol inhaler and anything more than that sends them to a specialist.
