Yeah. One of my college ex-boyfriends endorsed me for skills in a legal field that I now work in. We've seen each other socially (we have common friends) several times since college, but that's it. Shrug.
Yes, I got endorsed by my FIL. I think LinkedIn prompts people to endorse others (like specifically, will you endorse CrackHabit on x, y and z?), so if someone is click-happy (and perhaps not sure what they are doing), it's not hard to get a bunch of random "endorsements".
Yes, and for skills I don't actually possess. My MIL endorsed me for copy editing. I've never done that in my life, wtf? I also have quite a few endorsements for blogging, even though I don't have a blog.

I've only gotten 2 endorsements so far. One was was pretty random. The other was from someone I know and respect, but for a very broad category.
I think the value of the endorsement is pretty low since LinkedIn actively solicits for me to endorse people. It's incredibly easy to just click the button to do it, without knowing much about their skills.
I totally went to LinkedIn to endorse you just to spite you. But I was foiled by their bad mobile design, so you are safe unless I think about this at a computer.
