I agree, not great curb appeal but it looks totally livable. Totally depends on what you are looking for, size of your family, location, gut feeling about living there things like that.
ETA: while it's smaller, I like the second one much better.
I like the first one. The kitchen is pretty and while the curb appeal isn't awesome, it really isn't bad. The house we bought had terrible curb appeal but we loved the inside enough we bought it anyhow and will re-do landscaping this spring. The first house you posted is way better than what we were faced with on the outside.

I like the first one. I swoon for the 60's though. My first house was a 60's ranch and it was awesome, low maintence, and totally live able. My 1920's bungalow which was gutted in 1998 to double the size, is much more expensive to operate and care for. I would love another ranch, but the ones in my hood are too small and are basically lot value tear downs. I would go with the first one because of the hardwood floors and the kitchen renovation, both of those are costly upgrades. You could add a family room onto the back, off the kitchen of the first one for what those two things cost.
Yes, the one on S. 78th house we are going to look at on Saturday, along with Walnut Lane. I did drive by the 1st one and it looks alright. Going to try and drive by Walnut Lane tomorrow after work! (It has been on the market for almost a year, which makes me a little worried....)
