I had an interview for a position at another company. No kidding, right? It would be a step from where I am at now but I kinda of want out of industry the companies are in. That's neither here nor there.
Anyway, I go to the interview bs with the guy for a bit because he used to work at the same company ten years ago and some of the same people are still there. He asks me about what I know about the company and I tell him and he tells me his role and what he likes. Then he tells me that he is planning on fulling the role internally. He,also, informs me he has only hired 2 outsiders for the asst director of finance in the past and he likes my resume and will keep it on file. I was dumb struck. he did not even ask me my resume except for why I was looking ( no vertical advancement ) and if I looked internally at my company (I have and there is nothing that would be worth the move or I have an interest in)
So I asked him more about the company and that I respected companies that hired from within. WTF. I wasted my lunch to be told that he just liked my resume and wanted but a face with it and that it was going to fill internally. I am confused about what happen as to what the point was and I am starving.
Sometimes they're required to advertise for, and interview, a certain # of external candidates. It's a weird fluke policy of some companies. It sounds like that's what you got stuck in. Now you know not to apply for any other positions there.

This. At least he did yo uthe "favor" of basically letting you know to not expect an offer. But still - it's fine if they want to advertise the job. It sucks that they stick themselves w/ a quota if they have NO intention of hiring outside.
