Do you buy "fake" jewelry (e.g., gold-fill vs real gold, enamel vs gem stones, etc.) for every day, wear-to-work type jewelry? Stella and Dot, Kate Spade type stuff?
Or do you prefer saving and spending $ on the real deal, because it lasts forever (vs the other stuff which may tarnish/break down)?
What says MM?
I love jewelry. I love the real stuff but it is expensive, yo. And my H hasn't gotten the memo that it is ok to buy me nice stuff for anniversaries, etc. So after nearly 9 years of marriage I am seeing that if I want any nice REAL jewelry, I'll need to buy it myself. :-)
Most of what I wear to work, excepting my rings, is either silver or fake. I want diamond studs, but haven't found an occasion when it felt okay to splurge on them.
I wear both. But up until recently, our spending priorities didn't really allow for fancy gifts/expensive jewelry. We can afford to splurge a little more now, though, and I am hoping to acquire a few nicer things. Right now, I really only have my wedding rings, a few pairs of earrings and a bracelet. Everything else is costume.

I have a combination of both. Most of my everyday stuff is fake/costume. I do wear diamond studs in my second ear piercings everyday. Otherwise the good stuff I only wear on special occassions.
I love costume jewelry. My only "real" jewelry is my wedding set & a little pearl & diamond pendant on a white gold chain that my H got for me a few years ago. I want a Cartier Love bracelet someday, but I'm not in a position right now to spend $6k :-(
This post brought to you by the fact that my birthday is this week, and I sent DH some links to earrings I like (not even expensive stuff, just trying to give him some general suggestions) and his response was "are we doing birthday gifts this year?" Lol. Ten bucks says I'll get flowers. :-)
DH is great at buying jewelry, but he also buys a mix of high-end "real" pieces, vintage pieces, etc. He bought me earrings from kate spade for Christmas.
We also like to buy jewelry overseas when traveling.
I don't wear much jewelry, but I generally buy myself costume jewelry. I have a few real pieces that were all gifts. It's not really a matter of real vs. fake, I just usually prefer the costume stuff because it tends to be bolder and more fun.
I have a few "real" pieces. A cluster diamond ring, and aquamarine ring, my pearl set, a couple pendants, and my wedding set. Everything else is costume. I like to change it up. I do a lot of jewelmint, BR, and Baublebar. I was not happy with the quality of the one Stella and Dot piece I bought.
I also have jewelry my parents bought me for different occasions growing up but I don't wear it. Just hang onto it. The diamond studs they bought me are chips and I would rather wear my CZ.
I was thinking about this same thing the other day. I usually wear the same 5 or 6 pairs of silver earrings I have but then I wore a pair of Lia Sophia earrings. I came home and told MH that I think I am spoiled by my good silver jewelry.
I've decided that I would love to get a pair of diamond earrings, so every gift and extra money I can squirrel away is ear marked for a nice pair.
my everyday stuff is real. wedding set, diamond studs and diamond necklace. All from DH. I buy myself fake stuff for the trendy stuff, but I don't wear it very often, I am pretty conservative and prefer my everyday stuff all most of the time
oh and I guess my watch too, movado with diamonds around the face
I am not a fan of serious jewelry, so my engagement ring will probably be the only jewelry with stones I ever wear.
The rest of my jewelry is a mix of Tiffany sterling silver stuff (my best friend used to work there, so I cleaned up), silver or silver plate from random places like Etsy, and costume jewelry (mostly J.Crew, but some Hermes and Louis Vuitton).
I love jewelry, too, but I can't see spending 4-5 figures on nicer pieces. I have my diamond e-ring and wedding band, diamond studs, a diamond necklace and a nice watch. Other than those everyday pieces, I have a few pearl pieces (ring, necklace, earrings) and everything else is costume/fake. I have a fake e-ring I wear when I travel because I'm awful about losing things when I'm not in my natural element.
For the money, I would rather save or travel than have a nice piece of jewelry. QVC FTW!
I really don't wear jewlery. In part because I don't know how to buy pieces that will actually add to an outfit as opposed to the delicate real jewlery I own that doesn't really have any visual impact.
I rarely wear jewelry. On most days I just have my plain no stone wedding band on. I generally prefer real to costume jewelry if I do wear something. I like classic stuff like a string of pearls, a simple pendant, tennis bracelets, stud earings etc.
At my suggestion DH buys me one real item on the "5" wedding anniversaries. At 5 years he got me a diamond pendant. At 10 years he might upgrade my ring or do earning it all depends on what is going on. If we're in the middle of buying a house at the point then I'll probably get nothing which is fine. A house is far more important to me.

I've always been curious as to what the employee discount is at Tiffany. I might not want to know though, that might be too "painful" to see.
I hardly ever wear costume jewelry. All of my everyday pieces are "real": diamond studs set in platinum, my engagement and wedding rings, a silver Claddagh ring and a silver Elsa Peretti heart necklace.
I have one set of Lia Sophia earrings and a Lia Sophia bracelet I wear occasionally, maybe once a month, and 2 bubble necklaces I've worn a handful of times.

My everyday earrings are sterling silver -- I can't wear most costume jewelry earrings because whatever metal they use on the studs irritates my ears. I have 3-4 pairs of those, but they weren't too pricey (bought on sale). I also have a pair of amethyst earrings set in white gold and a pair of small diamond/white gold studs that DH bought me. I wear the amethyst fairly often if it goes with my outfit. I love the diamond studs, but I am always afraid I will lose them, so I actually don't wear them that often.
My necklaces and bracelets are all fairly nice pieces made out of sterling silver or white gold, again most gifts from DH, but they are all pretty delicate/understated. I'd actually love some more costumey/trendy pieces, but I lack the sense of style to figure out how to pick/wear these.
I have the opposite "problem"--H wants to buy me nice jewelry for pretty much every occasion, even when I would prefer something less fun.
Most of what I wear on a daily basis is "real" jewelry--my wedding band and engagement ring, a right-hand ring with C's birthstone, and pearl earrings. I also have a pearl necklace, a diamond and sapphire pendant, and a pearl pendant I wear a lot. I do wear some fake jewelry from day to day though.

It's been a few years so I don't remember exactly, but I think it was 50% on some things and 30% on others. You can only buy one engagement ring ever though, at 50% off. My best friend worked at their corporate office in Parsippany, and they had an employee store there that had things for way more than 50% off, so I was able to get things there when I visited (and she got me my watch there for like $100).
My old firm used to have a Tiffany shopping event during the holidays where a rep would come in and we could order things for 15% off, so that worked well after my friend left Tiffany. I definitely had a good run.
I wear the casual, less expensive jewelry way more often. I prefer to ave a lot of fun, funky peices. Also, I lose stuff a lot. So it's less painful this way. Haha.
I have a mix. A few real pieces that are very basic, like a couple of gold chains with pendant, some ball earrings from Tiffany (though they're silver, so not that fancy), a diamond tennis bracelet. Anything remotely trendy is costume jewelry. I have a few necklaces that are strands of semi-precious stones, but that's it.
I mean, some of my costume stuff was still over $100, so it's hard to justify spending much more than that IMO. I'd love a few more "real" pieces. I'd also like a very nice watch, but for now I make do with my Swatch
My everyday jewelry is real. My engagement ring and wedding band, Mikimoto pearl earrings, diamond studs (which were my "something borrowed" from my mother that I never gave back/ she let me keep because she got larger ones) and an aquamarine and diamond right hand ring. I also wear a Michael Kohrs watch with stones around it and mix in fun costume jewelry (mostly necklaces). DH is pretty good at buying my jewelry (even though I lost a Tiffany bracelet). I have also been gifted several things from Stella and dot and Silpada from family and friends.
I am not a huge jewelry person. I just got diamond studs and I have been wearing them most days. I also have a pair of Mikimoto pearl earrings that I wear often. I don't really own a lot of bracelets or necklaces. I have some Tiffany pieces from back in the day and a few J. Crew type things. I actually have a self-imposed rule that I don't wear earrings and a necklace at the same time.
I wear my watch most days. I don't really own too many "fun" pieces and prefer to keep it classic.
V - that's awesome. I figured it was probably around 30-40% but 50% on some items is great. I guess this is how they can get their sales employees to wear their jewelry, which is another thing I've often wondered about.

combination - DH has bought me a lot of really nice real jewelry that I love to wear. but on every day I wear fake stuff - from Kohl's, Target, Macy's, etc...
