IWhat happened to empathy and being kind to other people?
It has jack to do with empathy or being kind.
Exactly. And if someone is being expected to "empathize" why shouldn't the woman who screwed up be the one to think, "oh damn I need to turn around...I'll just get back in line rather than make this nice lady with the toddler lose her turn and cause a bunch of confusion in the gas line!"
I am with V, and I'll go a step further and say this is what pisses me off about our society/world today. Sure, it would have been nice of the woman to go wait in line because she messed up, but it also would have been nice of lilly to be understanding of the fact that she's human and let her turn around without getting upset about it. What happened to empathy and being kind to other people? I'm certainly not perfect and do dumb shit all the time, I give people the benefit of the doubt that they do sometimes too.
I actually agree with bucky. Where is the kindness folks? I just wish everyone was nicer.

I'm not going to sit and agonize about someone's intentions at a busy gas station. It has jack to do with empathy or being kind.
ETA: This isn't a situation where some lady's grocery bag burst all over the parking lot and lilly ran over her bread on purpose. It's about gas and lines.
Exactly! The kindness should have come from the person who messed up. Why doesn't she have to consider anyone else, but Lilly and everyone else does? That doesn't make any sense. This woman didn't have something unfortunate happen to her. She messed up, so she can take the hit in this small matter and get back in line.
I have some questions after reading your OP. Did you drive away from the pump because the lady was acting like a nut? Or because she had told you she needed to turn around?
Both. I had pulled up to see what she wanted because she kept beckoning for me to move like something was wrong. Once I realized what she wanted I was kind of shocked but I wasn't going to get into an argument over it so instead of trying to back up into the space to get gas, I just pulled out around her and went and got behind someone else at the next pump.

The attitude "Someone else should have empathy! Why should I care about someone else?" is exactly what I'm talking about. Sure she should have had empathy. So should have lilly. Both people should be kind to each other and unfortunately that means 1 person is going to wait a turn. The fact that lilly is discussing this later on a message board and people are getting riled up about it what I find annoying. This whole thing should have been no big deal and getting angry over someone else's dumb mistake shows no kindness or empathy. If the other woman was the one posting here being upset about lilly's actions I'd feel the same way.

What could the woman possibly post about my actions? I moved out of the way so she could get her gas!

I agree with v and buckbells. People are calling this lady stupid and an idiot for making a simple mistake. Maybe she was a little silly for the hand gestures. Everyone makes mistakes and a little understanding is in order. Maybe she was late for something important or was having a really crappy day.
But who knows how long she was waiting for a spot? She had waited her turn and made a mistake and then has to lose her turn just because of that?
I would have been annoyed to lose my spot. But I would have moved for this lady. It was a crappy misunderstanding.
